225 Clio Build



Hi guys

Was going to keep this under wraps but screw it might just post it

Im a total newbie to turbos and build threads so please bare with me and there maybe alot of silly questions

Well Ill with how the car is just now, I bought an 03 plate 172 year ago and half after having me having a 05 plate 1.2 extreme.

as always started with suspension I went for FK Highsports

once they were fitted I had to change the standard wheels so bought a set on seedline turini's and had them paint in nissan structural grey

later on I bought a ktec induction kit to get rid of the viper that came with the car and a ktec stainless steel stealth exhaust with decat, anyways after a 6-7 months of loving the car and going to track day with guys on cliosport.net a caught the track day bug and went away and bought rear cage track wheels and tyre and harnesses. But with me working weekends it wasnt going to be feasible so started selling all the parts of in the new year.

I always had the thought of turboing the clio from the minute I bought but never gave it much thought but recently one of my mate stu robertson superchargered his Ph1 sunflower which just put the turbo right back in my head then someone mentioned to me the Steven Lang was selling his turbo set up from his 225 power cup which you's will all know of course.


So I've ended up buying whole set up more or less, which is a F4R block with megane internals, megane head and td04 turbo with down pipe and link pipe to a 172 exhaust system which I only picked up last night

been having issues with my exhaust blowing for the last few months and I've stripped it out and repositioned it, yet it starts blowing a few weeks later

So it happened tonight again so decided to find the cause of the problem which turned out to be a knackered gearbox mount

so luckily i had a set of vibratech uprated mounts waiting to be put in when I doing the conversion,

so I installed them bit of a pain but what a difference already car feels alot more solid with hard acceleration

Definitely subscribing to this... can you explain a bit more about the 225 engine please? So it's a 172 bottom end but with megane crank/pistons, a megane head (which presumably bolts straight to the 172 bottom end?) and then the rest is megane, i.e. inlet manifold, exhaust manifold and turbo. What management do you plan on running? Sorry for all the questions.. :)

yeah exactly I bought the engine of steven lang (cupman on here) its a F4R block with megane internals megane head fitted with 172 cams its using the megane inlet as the td04 turbo fouls the clio breather system, using megane downpipe with link pipe made ti fit 172 exhaust.

Planning on using adaptronic 420 ecu which will being getting done a EFI as I have no clue about wiring at all

Will be keeping the power safe at around 240 until I sort something out with my gearbox as the car will be a daily driver

duno yet man got to reseal the sump first steven had a small leak so ive ordered new sump gasket, but got other bits and pieces to get aswell but hoping to have it done for Scottish Car Show with any luck

And my Turbo Trophy block lives in yet another Clio! The only thing I'll advise is get a custom downpipe made, every Clio conversion I've seen using the 225 turbo has been bodged to some extent to stop it touching the master cylinder, a custom down pipe would sort this out and it's not as expensive as you might think.

Would love a detailed write up of how this engine was put together, anything you guys could provide I'd very much appreciate. I want to go down this route also... don't want big big power but more than ITB's + cams!

I thought the engine came from andyrg?, tbh the downpipe seem good this time around and as for the master cylinder cupman says you can turn it 90 degrees to clear the downpipe.

Yeah Steve, your block goes to another good home. Custom downpipe would solve this but I have reduced the length towards the mater cylinder by 15mm and rotated my master cylinder by about 20deg and it clears it nicely.

Ah so you bought the engine from Cupman!

Look up my build thread, it's nearly all in there apart from the head modification on the 225 head to allow it to work with the Clio block.

Good point but don't hesitate to ask me anything if you're unsure on anything.

Look forward to seeing this progress and know you'll do the engine proud! :approve:

You had to bite your toung the other night when I mentioned boosting the bean! Going to be more boosted than N/A clios in fife soon!

yeah i know! Least you know now and i can talk about it lol. And thats the plan i think ;)
 
I had to do it so many time but gave up in the end lol fraz's turn next

Unlike you lot, I'd rather spend my time and money on the track than building something fast for track!

Hence why I'm the only lad going tomorrow night (well tonight technically since its 12:03 lol)

guessing there's not much modification needed to drop the 225lump in then?
