Place that done it has done a few recaros for me over the years. Price has never gone up since i got the last one done 8 years ago, its mad. Always do a decent job too.

Suprisingly decent. The weight is same or slightly heavier than the oem weighted gearknob which is good, gives a good shift.

Still waiting for the bodyshop..

Fluid change yesterday. Fresh Elf 5/40 and purflux oil filter.

Also changed the gear oil with Elf nfx. I put fresh elf nfj in when i rebuilt the suspension approx 12k ago, it was typical ndo when cold, bit notchy but overall fine no issues when warm. The nfx has suprisingly improved cold shifting, so nice bonus.

Give engine bay a quick wipe over to finish.

Out and about on daily duties today. Gets used all the time.

Updates.

Nothing to report really, heard fuckall back from the bodyshop. Might need to start looking elsewhere if nothing soon.

Cruise control buttons have been a bit floppy / iffy for ages with the button that decreases speed increasing it when pressed. Increasing speed also increases speed, usually end up sending it. I had a good spare set of cruise buttons in the stash from a low mile megane i broke years ago and found them the other day.

Fitted in 3 mins and work as they should.

Quick run down to Croft on bank hol Monday. 32deg, ac works superb so nice and cool.

Croft booked for 2 weeks time, so best get the r26 prepped. It didnt really need anything doing apart from brake fluid and pads changing, but give it the works. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail etc..

First job, rear wheel bearing on n/s. This will be the third one ive fitted as they have all developed play. Being honest, i think i was being super fussy and looking for issues as the play was that minor i dont think it would ever cause an issue..anyway parts in stock so done.

New snr bearing pressed in, new abs ring and bearing torqued up tight. Done.

I then inspected/serviced the rear brakes to check if any binding. All good, no issues. Noticed exhaust heatshield failing at one fitting so thats been repaired/refixed.

With that done, front up in the air.All suspension components checked and no issues. Greased the lower swivel bearings and refitted the Ds1.11 front pads.

With everything looking good, on with brake fluid change. I usually run motul rbf600 in this and yearly change/3xtrack days. I generally have no issues and it works, brake pedal gets a little softer on 3rd day but no cause for concern. After discussion decided to try Castrol Srf for potentially longer service intervals as it has a higher wet boiling point and known for longivity..only downside is price but if it lasts longer thats fine.



Syringed the res and pre filled/pressure bled. The brake fluid was pretty manky.
Clutch fluid however, totally fcuked as usual

You would think thats been in years not 1x year/maybe 3-4 thousand miles. Noticeable improvements in clutch pedal feel, same as every time ive bled it. Brakes all good, pedal rock solid after re bedding the front pads in.

Also cleaned.

Headlamps polished and coated with ceracote headlamp ceramic wipes.

Ive been giving Koch Chemie protector wax a try for a finishing product after cleaning. It appears to be good stuff, but i think the BH touch on made the colour pop a bit more personally. I guess its not all about the colour pop and how long it lasts is a factor.

Seems to bead well enough. We will see.



Ill dig the track wheels out next weekend and fit if forecast is good, Hopefully this dry weather spell will continue.

Small update

Following on with the connects2 saga on the kangoo, i tried the canbus version in the r26 and it worked in a fashion albeit wrong patch lead so the controls responded but not correctly. I spotted a badly listed 2nd hand connects2 for £7 delivered on ebay which matched up part numbers to previous one, so took a punt.

Works fine and had the correct pioneer patch lead. The display only says Renault as the stereo does not output can data sadly. Anyway steering wheel controls work good.

Croft trackday last Friday, had a great day. A few of us had booked on so was a great turnout.

Weather was far too hot being in the low 30's and all turbo cars were suffering with heat, so was shorter duration sessions compared to 10+ laps at a time. The r26 was creeping up to 107deg and beyond when behind cars due to lack of cool air, so i tried to avoid following people for too long.

R26 performed ok in the heat. Had fun following @YorkshireKyle and @Rskennedy for a few laps.

I also took the white r26 in the pic above out for a few laps. Its the one i fitted ecumaster to / 467hp on g series turbo. Its mega, can make ridiculous pace in it..traction out of low speed corners is unreal with boost by gear. Unfortunately really suffering with the heat so limited to 2 fast laps and cool off. It was keeping pace easy with any of the bm's etc.

On last session the clutch in my r26 started slipping its bollox off briefly, not sure if overheated/whatever, clutch pedal was still working ok but pedal feel has felt a little bit off for a while. Im still unsure whether the clutch did not disengage fully being honest, It has seemed to right itself now cooled down but once its slipped, it will do it again so its time to renew.

Assume stock clutch and dmf as ive not changed it, and its done several trackdays in my ownership. Ill pull it out for a smf kit / r26r clutch in the next few weeks.

Aye i was pedalling fcuk out of the r26 trying to keep up with both of them and failing miserably

Took it out tonight and can i fcuk repeat the clutch slipping under high load.

Clutch bits ordered though as i feel leaving it will bite me in the arse next trackday. Looking forward to that job ill admit

Parts have been arriving for the clutch change.

5ltrs ready mixed febi type d (actually for blue clio save postage etc), 5ltrs elf nfx gear oil and a ltr of castrol srf brake fluid. £150, prices are getting ridiculous compared to years ago, like liquid gold

I was literally about to hit the switch for a full smf kit for this to save aggro but got sent a link for a used smf just before i comitted. Fired a message and it seemed ok so done a buy saving some dollar.

Shopping round and buying bits indivudually has actually saved a decent chunk of money. The full kit is around £680 new, which in some respects is not bad.

However

Ttv r26r Smf £110
LuK 26R Clutch £120 with ebay voucher
LuK metal pipe concentric slave £55
Flywheel bolts £22
Clutch bolts £21

£328 not including fluids so add a ton or so more - decent price.

LuK R26r clutch (scenic diesel clutch) arrived, this has higher clamping force than the oem megane r26 230 clutch.

Test fitted clutch to ttv smf to make sure correct. Theres 2 variations of flywheel, this seems correct for R clutch as 8mm recess in flywheel and the plate fits flush

Had a look in the aladdins cave of new unused renault shite i have in the cupboard and found a spare unused crank seal from last engine build for the kangoo. I recall this turning up several weeks after ordering so was not needed but might come in handy if its a leaker

Just need a bit of time to get it stripped and done.
