Tough call, I don't know much about the D60, AFAIK its a D40 basically, still missing mirror lock up, uses a 3 point AF system, full lens compatibility, stuff you might not understand now but could bug your pretty quickly when you do.
Unless you prefer the smaller camera the D80 is screaming...
Check this focal length viewer..
http://www.tamroneurope.com/flc.htm
Your kit lens will zoom from 18-55mm assuming its that lens. Its good for wide angle and general walk around, not long enough for wildlife, sports etc. If you zoom it to 55mm and get close to the minimum focusing distance it...
It would be a good choice yes, specially if you think you'd take advantage of the video feature but the Mega Pixel count means sweet f-all.

Wander along to your nearest Jessops and give it a hold along side a 40D. Although the 18-105 VR...
Thanks, should say in most of the pictures, either a 350D or 40D, then a 10-22mm, 17-55 f/2.8 IS, 18-55mm, 28mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8 or 70-200 F4L! If they are close up they are one of the primes + extension tubes , Kenko Pro 1.4x teleconverter and sometimes 430EX flash. If they are...

For Canon bargains see the Refurb Outlet.

I'd recommend going to a store and holding some different sized DSLR's. You might like the smaller Nikon D40/60, Canon 1000/350/400/450D or...
Tripod, ISO 100, then as long as nothing is moving pick a suitable aperture for your desired depth of field and shutter speed.
Most important thing is to nail the White Balance, street lights give nasty yellow colour cast. I've never done it myself but learning how to set a custom white balance...
To shoot what?
On paper and from user reviews the new 50-250 IS probably the best bang for the buck, as JJ points out its not built like a tank but you get what you pay for, good optics and IS with a cheap build.
If you can stretch and depending on what you shoot a 70-200 F4L is a very good...
honest budget?
If its not for taking on the razz and shooting high speed sports get yourself an entry level DSLR like the Nikon D40 or Canon 400D or look for some second hand bargains.
Can bore you more when you have a price in mind...
I'd hate to deal with Sony if anything broke. I'm sure its a capable camera but looked into the product support for someone on here and it was not existent.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/ExposurePlot.html
ExposurePlot says very often at the wide end. Saying that, I think a 20mm fast prime would be interesting, as you can see I enjoyed using my 28mm f/1.8 which also had a very good MFD and think using a 20mm on its own as a walk around would be...

Skip the 1000D IMO.
400D's are going for about 250 at the Canon Outlet store.

There is always second hand, there is a 400D going for 200 delivered at the moment on POTN or I'd personally wait for a 30D to come up over a...
save myself starting a new thread, any reason not to get myself a 500GB Seagate External?
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128603
Want to run all my music and store all my photos on it before my current internal one fills up, my current 200GB external doesn't seem big enough or quiet enough to...
Good stuff, got to grips with it quick!
I get all my lenses from a guy called Kerso in Scotland, usually get HK prices with UK warranty which I have used so does work. Just ask for a Canon price list.. kerso1123@msn.com
If your after a bargain the 50mm f/1.8 is a good start if you want a good...
At that price I'd look at the Velbon Sherpa 250R, mine cost me 55 from a local store, I want to replace it but does me well at that price point so keeping it.
Can happily hold my 40D with 70-200 F4 and flashgun.
