Pain in the butt I think, if you need to flash your lights whilst they are on you have to switch them on and off quickly, otherwise you just full-beam the oncoming car! Very easy to forget and just blind people.
Im with the lights on 24/7 concept. Proven to be safer if you have at the very...
I read in a car magazine that they basically "run in" the components when they are made these days, and that going easy for too long actually harms the car as it has a polishing action on the components. Therefore giving it a reasonable thrashing is ok, AS LONG as you let the thing warm up first...
My girlfriend of 6 years is insured on my 172 Cup as it saved me over £100 on the insurance (she is a professional, it seems to make a difference). She drives a MG ZR 105 and Im still trying to decide whether she can drive it or not as well. She is extremely careful with regards to kerbing etc...
The irony is that (pretending 5th Gear makes a huge real world difference to sales) had the Clio won and been popularised on National TV you would all be moaning in 6 months about how common the 182 is on the roads.
Cant have it both ways!
That legendary £6k quote once again. Feel free to calculate the average cost of a 3 year old 172 on average miles (36k) both private and trade on AutoTrader and tell me what figure you come back with. I can assure you its not £6k and its not even £7k, the cheapest one in the country that isnt a...
What reg is your Cup? Cant see any reason why you cant get another £1000 by selling it yourself, especially if its newer and therefore still under warranty etc. According to AutoTrader I bought the cheapest sub-10k mile Cup in the UK this week and that was £8395 (53 plate)!
Just a quickie for anyone who knows...
Whats the general timescale between requesting to return a car (paid just under half so entitled to return it if I pay the remaining balance) and actually returning it? I think I read you need to send a letter or something so I assume its not quick.
I...
I work at a 16-18 College so imagine the crap I see getting driven round everyday by people who think they own the road!
Thats my main concern actually, driving a mint 172 with private plate to work every day is going to be a bloody nightmare, going to have to get in early every day to make...
Compared to most other 1.2s on the market the 1.2 16V in newer Clios does seem to have more ooomph to it, its a great engine. Compared to my original 1.2 (N reg) its a different class, certainly got no worries overtaking or anything like I did have in the old one. At lower speeds on tight twisty...
On my test drive the first thing amazed me was going from a 50mph zone to a NSL dual carriageway, 50-70 in 5th takes about 3 days in my 1.2 but the 172 just flew.
I was happy enough on my journey out but when heading back to the dealer I decided to try the whole rev range a bit, dropped a...
I was suprised to see there was space for a spare wheel, I was under the impression the exhaust system was in the way as well as the fact that it was a weight saving thing.
Has anyone actually had to use the foam before? Just interested in how it works.
Had an interesting day today, 45 miles in my 03 1.2 Dynamique (which I always felt was quite nippy) down to look at a 172. Dealer gave me the keys and me and my other half went for 15 mile test drive, terrifying yet utterly superb!
Put me foot down a bit lighter than I normally do and the...
1.2 16V (2003) here on 22k, had it from new. Get 46mpg on my 10 mile through-town daily commute.
Oddly enough the few times Ive really gone for it (usually down to and around the south coast, about 130 miles a day) Ive returned mpg figures in the 50s, although due to the nature of the roads...
Ive been messed around with parts at a Renault dealer. Needed a new alloy for an 03 Dynamique, they took my numberplate which of course brought up the exact details for my car, then when I go back a few days later I get given the new alloy that Renault use on entry level Clios. Went back, guy...
Im guessing its a way of confirming the seller actually lives there, may be totally wrong but I imagine someone dodgy could sell a car out on the street outside a property they know to be empty.
Im potentially going to be spending nearly £9k on a 172 soon privately. Ive never bought privately before so I have some real obvious questions that I probably should really know the answers to...but dont! Any help would be appreciated.
1. If Im travelling a long way how does these things...
t.t.g.h: Time to Go Home
It means your car is about to start rattling violently, the engine mounts are about to go and your sunroof is going to start leaking. Put it in the garage, book into a Renault Franchise dealer (so you dont invalidate your warranty ;) ) and get them all sorted for six...
Quoted £623 here with Elephant on a 182, Im 23 with 5 years NCB so your quote seems reasonable considering you have no NCB.
Elephant tend to be pretty good with additional drivers though if you play around, adding my girlfriend (23, 0 NCB, Primary School Teacher) knocks off well over £100.
Didnt realise about Serious Performance so I got mine from http://www.drivenincar.comwww.drivenincar.com, all arrived 48hrs later. They seemed to stock more than the actual Meguiars UK store.
No probs...

It was exactly these sorts of things I was hoping the Meguiars Hot Wheels would sort out. Did exactly what it said, washed down the wheel, applied the product and let it soak for no more than 15 seconds, then rinsed with a strong stream of water. Did absolutely sod all the first time so I tried...
Ah glad its not just me then. Left it until it "hazed" as it said, then the haze wouldnt go away!
Am I right in thinking its fine to apply wax quite frequently? Im under the impression that unlike polish it actually builds up a layer of protection on your car, so its actually benefical to do...
Sorted the Clio bit after reviewing the pictures, didnt realise till then!
Got scared waxing it (NXT) this evening, unless Im doing something wrong you really need to put some work in it to get the finish up when wiping it down. The polish I was using came straight off quite easily so I was...
Spent just shy of £100 on Meguiars stuff last week, really for the new 172 when I find one but I thought I would test it out on my Dynamique. Only ever used bog standard Halfords things before and over two years it had picked up swirls, very small scratches and various other imperfections...
I see, not really keen on a 300 mile round trip to look at a private car though, havent got a great deal of time at the weekends. Maybe I need to start looking further afield, certainly seem to get cheaper the further I look away from me, average price seems to drop by at least a grand up north.
If many people here are to believed regarding the apparent depreciation, £6k should be more than enough for a decent 3yr old example (just posted about this very thing in a different thread exactly), havent seen much evidence of that though!
Where are these figures coming from? Average cost of a 3 year old 172 with average (36k ish) miles on Autotrader based on a 60 mile radius for me is £8,500, and most of them are Cups.
Ive never understood where these fabled £6k 3 year old RS models come from, I certainly havent seen one and...
