Grand worth of mods wont pull on a standard car ? Now who's talking rubbish ..
Agree that uprated brakes arnt to be sniffed at but when do you have the oppotunitly to actually be in a position to outbrake anyone ??
Whats the point in having driving tuition? Yes it might make him more driver aware but in the real world with other cars about, busy roads etc its not going to be of any great benafit vs a dose of extra bhp !
Bloody hell thats a good price.
Im one year older than you paying just a tad under 500 in rural Scotland with 5 years NCB fully comp protected
Who are you with and is that fully comp ?
Its your starter matey
Mines doing exactly the same and has been for the past few months. Quick tap with a iron bar usually free's the sticking bushes all be it tempory ;)
Yeah, if he's planning on spanking it to death on the UK road network but in the real world thats just not possible.
He wants more power but the next big step up is into cams which will top his grand by another half
Id go decat, maxogen, inlet and remap
Best thing is to do a search as most of the info has already been covered but for a taster, buy a second hand manifold and you just need a link pipe to join up.
Bugger to fit and dont expect 10 bhp. Like any mod you need a remap to get the best out of it.
Not sure about that better top end...
Had mine done and cant say it reved any easier. Had other mods done at the same time however.
I agree too. Scientific, 'book talk' on mechanics does my load in
Yeah its just going to be a matter of time before you have to folk out another 30 notes.
Not my cup of tea either but at least here you can tell your first name from it :) , better than the boring initial ones which mean jack s**t to anyone
Think the problem is the gearbox, rarity of getting hold of a donor engine and cost vs other methods.
Sure i read someone on here tried but gave up due to various problems
Better cost per turbo option would be a VAG 20v Turbo conversion
You were lucky
Spoke to a salesman at a Subaru dealer a few years back and they wouldnt touch a imported Scooby again after the two imports they sold went pop all down to the differences between the UK and Japan octane levels apparently (98 vs 100 ron)
If octane level's make no difference according to some then why do folk involved in motorsport activities use octane boosters?, use high octance racing fuel, aircraft fuel etc etc ?
Yeah mines just a 172 John. Had a lot of work done on it and i thought 167 (which is what? 190 odd bhp @ Fly) was pretty good going vs standard figure of 134bhp (Clio 172).
You certainly have a good one their if the figures are about right :)
If you want a faster than the norm 172 and gonna be keeping it for a fair few years then yeah go for it
But..
Be aware, for 2 to 4k's worth of mods on 172, you could have a very nice second car sat on your driveway with bags more potential.
750 quid
My steelers are not even half that. Got mine done at the same time as a pulley and it came to under 300! (before anyone asks, im not getting mixed up with the auxillary belt either)
Its still worth getting a Clio Haynes as a lot of stuff does still apply to the 172's.
The above poster he has his own website with fitting guides too which are very helpfull
*free plug ;) lol
