When I said slow it down I meant by the acceleration times will be slower using 17s because the rolling radius is greater than that of the standard cars 15s.
SOZ:oops:
For me the thorn in the 172s side has always been the V6...obviously Reno dont wont to make the 172s too good in the performance stakes, that would make a mockery of the V6 if they did. [performance wise]

Dont bother with 17s theyll just slow the car down..........what id do is get a nice set of 16s and slam it.......best compromise between looks and performance.
Try changing gear!!!......if you drive it hard youre gonna get poor mpg goes with the territory Im afraid even in a 172.
A salesman told me he got 45 miles out of a full tank full in a Scooby WRX STi driven hard... £45 to fill up as well........ouch!!!
Ive hand no problems with starting mine and Ive had it out in a lot colder temperatures than -3 .........live in Scotland...... still no snow yet!!!:cool:
At the end of the day if you pull up to the lights in 172 and theres a CTR next to you your not going to say "well I wont take him on because hes in the next class up" are you......The mk1 172 Ive got is with out doubt the best car Ive ever owned its just the 182 isnt going to be a big enough...
My opinion of the new clio 182 is that it hasnt really moved Renault any further on in the hot hatch market. To compete it needs 200bhp like the CTR and FRS. The extra 10bhp and a few tweaks here and there arent enough for me to justify changing my mk1 for one.
When I first got my 172 it was...
From what Ive seen on here 172s dont seem to respond very well to engine tuning.
Now that new Megane turbo.......thatll be a totally different story!!!
My mk1s lights are poo too....when Im driving along I can see sheep in the fields to my left!......great for going round sharp left turns though, you just look out of the passenger window to see were the road points next!! :)
Good luck Dink16v........but Id flog them if I were you while you can still get something for them....like i said mine bent through normal road use never hit a cerb, never over a speed bump too fast etc etc
Spoke to Demon tweeks few month back and was told OZ had temporarily withdraw that...
The wheels I had on were in a size 7.5x16inch using 215/40s on a mk6 Escort.
Youve got to remember guys using 40series tyres theres only about 3inch between the wheel and the road so theyve got a lot more chance of bending them than say a 15inch with a 195/50 tyre.... that said its still no...
CUPPY
Are these vipers worth the money then?.........just that someone came on another link saying he had put the standard air box back on and could hardly notice the difference between the two.
Good luck with the TSWs...your gonna need it!!
I had a set of 16 inch blades [back in the day] three of them went ovel in 18 months through normal road use, never even kerbed them, anyway complained to a bloke at TSW and he said 18 months use was good going couldnt belive it, over a grand...
I was once told that a rolling road needs to be re-caliberted every so often to keep it accurate this would explain the varying figures from one RR to another.
As for the power of a 172/cup, it says in the sales brochure up to 172BHP not a guaranteed 172bhp..... in any case these engines need...
