    9 months off the road....

Apart from the brake pads freezing to the discs, my car was OK after 4 months off the road this winter gone.

    grey valvers

Aaron - no, they didnt make bronze Valvers, it was just an option on lower spec Clios on late H-plates. My mate has a Tungsten Grey 16v - its a K-reg Phase1. Xerus Grey replaced Tungy Grey when it came to Phase2 (my old Clio was a Xerus Grey Phase2).

    205gti1.9vclio16v

I think its fairly safe to say that if you roast a 205 in a 16v, its not a 1.9. If it beats you, then its probably an Mi16 conversion. If its really close, then itll be a genuine 1.9. I know the Mi16 is a very highly rated conversion, but it wont be massively faster than a regular 1.9/Clio...

    grey valvers

Ive got a pearlescent black one. Not common, but not as rare as Brooklands Green. Apart from the Sports Blue, there isnt an obvious colour for the 16v and they seem to come in all sorts.

    = Clio 1.8 16v - Vs Civic 1.6 VTI =

Was it a three-door? My flatmate used to have one before his 16v (he has a CTR as well now) and swears that the Civic was as fast.

    Who has the oldest clio

I thought Frank Williams wrote off No.1?? Or is that just heresay - I know that Williams didnt even touch the Williams (it was all RenaultSports work).

    205gti1.9vclio16v

Id say theres no clear winner, although the 16v moved the game on when it came to handling - its no better, just more controlable. Never raced one, but Im sure that both 205 GTi and 16v drivers have a lot of respect for one another.

    Newbie Query...

Id print this off if I were you! Read the 1994 Cars & Car Conversions article on the Williams on the main Cliosport site (under articles!). That outlines the Group A pedigree of the 16v - and its later homologated special edition: the Williams. Despite this greatness, theyre expensive and...

Yeah, but he didnt write that himself. Its customary for the researcher to acknowledge their sources so that fellow researchers can investigate the paradigms and theoretical assumptions ofthose references if they so wish. If that has all just come from...

    Who has the oldest clio

The Clio was released in late March 1991 in the UK, so there are some late H-reg Clios out there. There was a horrid bronze metallic colour option that disappeared after a few months and seems only to come up on H-reg cars. The 16v was released in the UK in November 1991, with a small initial...

    Alfa 33 16v Scudetto

The thing was that apart from a tacky spolier, it didnt look very mean. The alloys/tyres were fairly small/skinny and the fact it was white probably did it no favours. But it was still a good fight - Id say it was better than a Mk1 RSi and near to a 16v in terms of performance.

How quick is the 1.8 16v

The state of tune of a 16v isnt an important factor like it is with, say, a GT Turbo. Mods below cams/head work make very little difference to the 16v/Willy, making them more driveable rather than giving massive power hikes. You obviously got the 0-60 of 8.6 from Max Poo. Did you also...

    Newbie Query...

Id narrow it down straight away by throwing any idea of a Corsa in the bin. No disrespect to your current car, but it cant mix it with the other three. GT Turbos are rapid and cheap to buy...provided you can find a good one. Good luck! The VTS has to be one of the hot hatch bargains of...

    Williams Clutch

FYI, you can use the Williams clutch kit without problems. Theyre designed to have higher tolerances because of the extra torque, so it cant be a bad investment for an extra £10-30. I have one fitted at the moment.

    how fast is 1.4clio 16v

Hmmm...if you dont redline your Valver then youll never get peak performance. Peak torque is at 4,500rpm and power at 6,750rpm.

    Alfa 33 16v Scudetto

Just been on an Alfa site. 137bhp and sub 1000kg. Phew! Thats the same as a standard Clio 16v - no wonder he was putting in a good show!

    Alfa 33 16v Scudetto

Just been out and had one of these on my tail, a white H-reg one with a middle age man driving. I let it overtake to see what it was: an Alfa 33 "16v". At the next roundabout we left onto the dual carriageway side-by-side, and I instantly blasted past - although I did have the

    Acceleration

The Willy doesnt develop much more torque than the 16v, something like 6% more (119lb/ft plays 129lb/ft). But it develops 85% of that torque at a measly 2500rpm, whereas the 16v gets it at over 4000rpm. So the spread of torque is important too.

Can I come out with some crazy new discovery then??! SHOCK! Induction kits dont increase power!!!!! ;)
  22. B

    Acceleration

Thats all well and good, but its not some amazing discovery nor a blanket rule. A 16v/VTS etc are low on torque, but arent exactly slow... Theres some more explaining to be done.

    Whats cheaper 16v or RT

Yeah, bills are a major factor. A tatty 16v will make poor money becuase there will be big bills ahead and punters know this. But I still regularly see mint Phase1s going for up to £4k. People will pay well over book for a mint car because the 16v is an enthusiasts car. My mate has...

    1.2 dynamique

My flatmate and I both have Valvers, so it was a bit of a novelty when he got a brand new 1.2 16v as a courtesy car. Far, far better than the Mk1 1.2s ever were and much closer to the top of the range in most ways (when did you ever mistake a Mk1 1.2 for a 16v/Williams?!). We just sat in...

    206 - tw*tted!

Autocar managed to get an astonishing set of performance figures out of their 206 GTi (their 1991 Valver stats were a smidge better all round): 0-60 in 7.8 secs 0-100 in 21.6 secs 30-70 in 7.2 secs and top whack of 130mph But the word on the street - and evidence, courtesy of Phil -...

    volvo 480

As far as high street, Next, Daily Mail type taste is concerned, the 480 series are gross. Really minging. Cheese wedge redefined with a bit of extra grossness and then some more, please. For die hard fans like me, they represent everything that is really quite nuts about Volvo. Quietly...

    Insurance

Clio 16v, standard (on the outside...:devilish:), 22 years old, 1 years NCB = £700 FC with Halifax. My advice would be to try and find the newest "big player". It used to be Direct Line, but now its Halifax (who are also Sainsburys and E-sure). The big boys want your premium to invest/lend...
