No, dont think youd get 120 in 4th without a dicky speedo! Im sure you already know, but youve got to keep things between about 5-7000rpm to be making maximum progress in the Valver.
In standard tune (which is never), a GT Turbo is about the same as a 16v - giving to the 16v at speed, but taking on the traffic light grand prix (torque/power delivery). But where it really wins is in tuning. For every pound spent on getting an extra 1bhp out of the F7P 16v lump, youll get...
If you need a new one, I have a mint one from a 16v with 48k on the clock. If youre interested, tell me how much they are new and ill do you a bargain.
The E46 318ci is a 140bhp 2.0 motor. Its about the same performance-wise as a 2.0 Laguna/other rep-box.
I had a comedy situation a few months ago where both an E40 323i (a 170bhp 2.5) convertible and an E46 320i (170bhp 2.2) convertible were trying to race me off a sliproad and onto a...
You can get -50mm springs from BB Tuning (http://www.bbperformancetuning.co.ukwww.bbperformancetuning.co.uk). You should have no problems using standard shocks, but bear in mind that theyve probably seen better days and that especially front strut top mount bearings wear at an accelerated rate...
No - theyre not the same. All Mk1 Clios bar the 16v/Willy/RSi have Bendix callipers and discs. The others have Lucas callipers and discs.
Yes - theyre better and theyre simple to swap. Ask BenR - he did it to his old RT.
Its possible to stick a Valver engine and box in your RT, but...
I always go for Yokos as theyre very cheap for their performance... in the dry. But I hardly drive my car in the wet and lesser still drive it fast in the wet, so it doesnt matter to me.
The later 1149cc "DIET" 8-valve 1.2 engine spawned the later 16-valve version. But Im afraid I dont know how different the 16-valve unit is.
The head of the 1171cc 1.2 (Energy) engine - as found in the Phase1 & 2 Mk1 Clio - is certainly not interchangeable with either the 8 or 16-valve...
Weight makes a lot of difference in the 16v - probably more than with a 172/Willy/Cup - because the power & torque is all in the high revs. Its not "slow" below 4,500rpm, but its one of the earlier performance 16v engine designs where if you want to make maximum progress you have to rev the...
If its after 31st December 1992, then you need a cat (AFAIK).
I bought a de-cat about three months ago and its one of the best VFM mods you can do. Sounds a bit Nova-esque if you drive on part throttle, but sounds absolutely awesome on full acceleration!
I suspect its retrofitted as it wasnt a factory option for the UK market (though other markets did have it). It certainly isnt an option in the 1993 and 1995 brochures I have for the 16v.
I guess Renault may have offered it one point for a short period of time? They like doing that - like...
Id want a mint Willy for leisure and a 172 for daily driving. Most 172s are good uns and will be faster than the Willy, not much, but a little - but thats missing the point.
I doubt many people would buy a Willy over a 172 while theyre still new - it will be more of an issue as 172 prices...
Im glad this thread is not in the main thread as someone would have come in by now and tried to shat on your figures Aaron. I just hope that if yours are that good then mine must be even better (!!).
Had a Mk1 Clio 1.2 (18-21)
Then a Mk1 Clio 16V (21-for ever??)
Have always had the use of a Volvo 340 1.4 (lovely car, blows away the Valver;)) and recently the use of a Volvo S40 and 960 - all parents cars.
Welcome!
There isnt a Mk3 Clio yet: the newest shape one is still a Mk2 (1998-present) and is known as Phase2. What youre thinking of as a Mk2 is actaully a Mk2 Phase1. There were also three Phases of the Mk1 Clio (1991-98).
Mk2 Phase1 (1998-2001) saw a number of engine options and some...
Jeez - how does your car compare with BenRs camd up Valver? as mine is about the same as that give or take, with me just pulling away at high speed.
Im sure youve got a dodgily low transmission loss, as its not making much more than standard is it? What was it at the wheels, mine was 128bhp.
I meant that I would use Autoglym EGP (as posted a few posts ago) after stage 2 and before stage 3. Do you visit http://www.autopia.orgwww.autopia.org too?? I hear that using a synthetic before the carnuba works best.
I used to use SRP, but after I use it on some cars Im selling, I wont...
Ive never driven a hot hatch with ABS (circumstance, not choice!), but I drive other fairly powerful saloons etc and cant see that Id spec a car like the Cup with ABS if I had the choice. My Valver is tuned and carries about 160bhp per ton Id imagine - I never really drive it in the wet and...
Yeah, Im going to do stage 2 and 3 again. But carnuba waxes like stage 3 wear off, so I want to lock in stage 2 with a synthetic wax (autoglym) and then top it up with stage 3. I used to use autoglym, but meiguars is so much better (before it wears off! - must be the car cover).
I found...
Be careful with car covers. Ive used one for the past two years since Ive got a compound but no garage in Bristol, and dont use my car for weeks at a time.
I bought a plain one from Halfords (navy blue polyester type thing) and it was just shocking. No good for outside and I cant see it...
