Yeah the clutch needed doing anyway. It's just getting the thing to a garage that's the problem.

Out of gear with the clutch up it was trying to stall so I reckon the clutch has gone too. The clutch was quite high anyway.

I don't think it does free wheel judging by how it wouldn't go onto the drive.

If I dropped the box out, could I tow it then? Maybe a stupid question!!

My ph2 172's gearbox decided to eat itself on the way home from work today. It started whining loudly this morning, then wouldn't go into 1st and then bang. AA towed me home, we struggled getting it onto the drive as the gearbox kept jamming. I have no idea what to do with it now. It's an 02...

How many hours labour to remove it from the car and re-fit it??

The box on my PH2 172 has started whining this morning, quite loudly and i'm battling to get it into 1st. When it does go in, it crunches. How much am I looking at to have it removed, refurbed and then re-fitted??

Is there a guide available on how to change the gearbox oil on a 172? Never done it before. Where can I find the Elf 75/90 oil from too? Cheers.

I've got a whining / whurring noise on my ph2 172 when it's in gear and decelerating. It's fine when accelerating. A garage has had a look today and said the bearings in the gearbox have gone. Which bearings as I can't seem to find the parts anywhere??

It must have been the brakes on mine, they were nackered. Since I have had the new brakes on the noise has gone away.

My 172 needs a good major service, gearbox oil change included. What's a good price for this kind of service? I don't need the belts doing. I have been quoted £150 + vat by a Renault specialist.

The noise is as if something is spinning and it's catching on something.

I'm getting a really unhealthy grinding noise when I take my foot off the gas and let the car coast in gear. It's really noisy in 1,2,3. Could this be the driveshaft going or is it the gearbox or something else?

Hi, I have got Brembo HC disks and Ferodo pads for the front and standard disks and pads for the back of my 172. Just called a Renault Specialist and they £120 labour to fit them. Seems a bit steep? I was thinking around £50 labour or am I way out?

Got a few problems with my speedo. Basically i'll be driving along and it will die and then burst into life, go wobbly a bit and then be back to normal. If I floor it, the needle does not smoothly rise up the speedometer, it leaps. Is this a problem with the speed sensor? Thanks

Pretty sure my brakes have had it, they don't really work anymore. I'm thinking of getting some Brembo HC discs for the front. Are the Ferrodo 2500's still the best pads?? Seem quite steep in price compared to the price of the brembos?? Do I just go with standards on the back as recommended?

Why are the 182 ones loads cheaper?? Take it a 182 one not fit the 172 manifold?

I've got them on mine. Quite a bumpy ride but not as bad as coils. It does handle better than standard but bumpy corners can unsettle the car. It does look spot on in terms of ride height. I got my springs for £12 off eBay. I certainly wouldn't pay £99.99 for them though.

I'll check that one out then I think. How easy / hard is it to fit? I've got a trolley jack and axel stands.

Hi, My drivers side Xenon has gone pink so I have ordered some new 6,000k bulbs. Do I just pop the front bumper off and take out the headlights, fit the bulbs and job done or am I missing something lol?

Hi I have an aftermarket HU in my 172 and it appears the aerial connection going into the HU has broken. I have been down the scrappy and got one off another Clio but have no idea how i'm getting it onto my aerial wire! It looks crimped on! Any ideas?

Right, my Clio has just passed it's MOT and I fancy a few more pops and bangs so i'm thinking of going with this. Will the 182 one fit my 172? Cheers.

I've got a ktec stealth stainless on mine and it has been boomy since day one, over a year ago now, especially at 60mph. I'm thinking of putting an NWP Silenced decat on it now as I want some more pops and bangs. I hated it at first but it has grown on me now.

If I could get a deal like that I would go straight in and sign up. I have spoken to 3 garages and none of them will go that low.
