1.2 Mk 2 Phase 3 Campus 'Sport' - Typical First Car

Hi all,

My name's Alex and I'll be 17 in two weeks today. I went to look at a Campus Sport today and immediately fell in love with it. Car was perfect aside from some mayo in the filler cap, but a phone call later confirmed it was simply due to short journeys, not HG failure. :D

34 thousand on the clock with full stamped history every year, 2 previous owners. Managed to knock another hundred off the price because of no tax, so got it for £2650. Not a bad price I thought!

I'm no stranger to mods with this actually being my fifth car, although most were field cars and one was a drifter. Everything will be subtle and insurance friendly for a while, for now it'll be mainly ICE mods and keeping it neat and tidy! :)

Waiting for the cheque to clear before I go and pick it up, so these are the only pictures I have at the moment!

Cheers :)

This! when i got mine i was all 'sweet, a sunroof!'

and now when it rains im all 'ffs, a sunroof '

One of the things I first noticed when I sat in! No leaky soggy headliner for me :D

Mayo in the oil cap is nothing to worry about. My Campus was the same, and I did over 50,000 miles in 3 years no problem :) only car I miss.
Looks tidy mate

Still was a shock to find when the rest of the car was spot on, was assured though when I rang a friend who's a French specialist of 20 years. Always good to be sure!

From what I got a glance of, it's already got:

-RS Grille
-JVC headunit and some form of upgraded speakers all round including tweeters
-Tinted rear windows, undecided on them currently...
-Some form of HID kit. Nice bonus I suppose! :D

  Renault Clio 1.2
Nice and tidy, Did you find it on Ebay? as just seen the ad for it and by sounds of it last owner looked after it well. Got a good motor there

I first found it on Autotrader but yeah it's on eBay too. Tis a very nice car and has been looked after meticulously. Seeing Renault dealer service stamps every single year put a proper smile on my face :)

Decided to treat myself and get a new headunit. Always had a soft spot for those 7 inch flip out screen jobbies but there seemed to be such a limited variety of them. Either you went for the s**tty Ripspeed jobs or spent £400+ on a Kenwood/Alpine unit.

Had loads of TEAC stuff before and it's all been top notch, no reason for this not to be! And at £180, not a bad price either! :)

Ordered some chrome coated indicator bulbs, not silvervisions cause I couldn't justify quite that much! Also some new LED sidelights since the current ones are yellow and original and not maaad. Don't match the HIDs at all!

Also found my driver's window would only go down about half way before hitting something and stopping. Took the door card off this morning and found something had slipped between the outer skin and the window. Clipped back on, everything put back together and sorted.

The chap who had the car before me fitted some Vibe components in the front, and presumably he's just jumped into the Renault's wiring? He mounted the tweeters on top of the old ones on the dash, and ran the wires through the grille's themselves and presumably used the old wires. In the doors he's done the same I presume from looking at the wiring? Am I right?

Yes he did wrap the wires around the terminals and tapped them on -.- soon sorted that out with some crimping and blade connectors.

Lookin good! bet you cant wait to get out and drive it!

Thanks dude! Like how you posted that bang on midnight on my birthday ;) cheers!

Looks good mate! got to wait till April to drive mine :( Happy Birthday btw

It's a punishment to have to wait haha, I hated every second. So good to be that age now! Cheers :)

Nice one dude :) Campus rear end being the one with the numberplate in the bumper? and cheers! :)

Chrome coated bulbs were here when I got back from Sixth form, so I wasted no time putting them in. Simple cheap mod that looks the part.

Proper job.

Still waiting on some C4 washer jets, my new headunit and some LED sidelights. All good stuff. Also got a wee TomTom Western Europe for my birthday from my uncle! Nice piece of kit :)

How bright is that LED Reversing light?

Absolute cack mate. Came with the car in a box of bulbs and it's shocking in all honesty. Will be replaced by some Cree jobbies at some point, but £12 for some reversing bulbs is excessive right now!

Hi, just a bit of advice for the speakers (I have the exact same).

It's crucial that you use the correct crossover with them else you will blow both the tweeter and the speaker to shreds.

Don't have the crossovers unfortunately mate, came preinstalled and the guy gave me the box but it contained just the instructions and no crossover. Either he's thrown the crossover away or, he's mounted it under the dash and used the pre existing wiring through the door for the speaker? Then ran the tweeter through the aftermarket crossover as normal? I'm not sure. I really need to have a proper dig around under the dash.

Although judging on his speaker wire install, I don't hold much hope on the proper crossover being hidden somewhere..

Tidy car mate... Out of interest, what other cars have you owned 

Why I'm glad you asked ;)

First three were field cars, although the second was due to be my first road car. But that idea fell by the wayside and was sold to fund the BMW.

Which inturn blew it's clutch and several cogs in the 'box last August. Was truly heartbreaking. I was only 15 when I got it and drifted it round Norfolk Arena alongside S14's and R32's. Honestly the best thing I've done in my life. One day I'll get back on it :)

yeah i have the plate in the rear bumper... didnt like at first, but have grown to prefer it! :L also, got a link for the indicator bulbs? how much were they? cheers :)

Fitted some footwell LEDs as per the guide on here, coming on with the interior light. Pretty nifty and not bad for about £8 :)

Also got my new stereo through on Tuesday but a combination of GTA V and the fact it needs an ISO connector soldering on, it's on hold haha.

Why Renault decided to allow such a small amount of space for the headunit is beyond me... Sick of trying to feed wires into recesses behind the cage. So that was a total failure. Anyone got any tips or advice?

Also got my driving test on the 23rd October, hopefully freedom will begin then! ;)

All fixed. Blown 5 amp stereo fuse was the cause, bloody lunacy that something that irrelevant and tiny had the ability to stop the whole car. All sorted now though :)

Stereo is fitted, don't currently have any pictures of it though. Doesn't quite fully sit back in the dash but it looks okay. Think I'm pretty happy with the car now, should probably just concentrate on passing my test now. Might look at wrapping some dash pieces but that's all I can think of right now!

Glad you got it sorted, how come it doesnt sit flush?

I think what's causing it is the wiring for the central locking/hazards/demister buttons. It isn't long enough to sit to the side of the stereo so it has to sit behind, and pushing the stereo any further back pushes the wiring back. And then disconnects the plugs

KNows it! ^ ^ it is this. You can get a slightly better look at it if you take the top dash off.... but i dont think there's anything you can do other that lengthen them, which is a fair amount of effort and would almost definitely require removing top dash.... unless you have tiny hands.?

Thought that would be it! i managed to lever mine over the top of the head unit with a long, thin screwdriver if that helps

Not much to update with. Secured a part time job with Homebase so moola should start coming in = more mods :D

Does however mean I have so little spare time between Sixth Form and work, but hopefully updates should be rolling in once I start earning!
