This week has been an expensive one!

Monday
insurance £430

Tuesday
Full service
Exhaust mid section

MOT - Failed! (rear brakes, exhaust, number plate light)
£411

Wenesday
replaced rear pads


Friday
new engine mounts and aux belt kit arrived from Ktec £200
Then set about changing the gearbox.
we are following the guide by Ben P, its pretty good so far, just a few bits he missed off. such as the things that fit to the subframe that r in the last pic.

This evening, we have most of the parts out to let us get to the gearbox.
tmw will be the switch-a-roo, rebuild then the aux kit.

End of Day 3-
yesterday we got the gearox out and discovered that it had a sensor in it for the speedo.

the new gearbox i am putting in doesnt!

so we took the old gearbox apart to see wheather or not the worm wheel which sits on the diff was removable. it doesnt appear ot be.

so we decided to swap the case onto the new gearbox, fit the plastic cog to the new diff, if it hasnt already got one on there!

At about 4pm last night we got the new gearbox half apart and it jammed. so we are stuck.
gonna have to take it to a gearbox specialist tmw!

we consiered doing the Aux belt today but with the way things are going and the room avalable down there, we gave it up as a bad job!
At one point we did consider selling the car for parts as there doesnt seem much more to take off it!!

anyone want half a 172?

Monday -Day 4

I took the old 172 gearbox and the 182 box to doncaster to see whather the casing could be swapped around giving the right combination for the car.


Wednesday - Day 6

Got a call to say that the casing couldnt be swapped.


Friday - Day 8

Picked up the original gearbox, 182 box from S&D transmissions in donny.
then on to Doncaster Motor Spares for a repacelment gearbox i had sourced

With 3 box's in my mates golf we returned to The garage and began rebulding.
only when we got the box on did we realise that the clutch release bearing was on the floor of the garage,broken.

So my old man went off to see josh and get a another one.

Saturday - Day 9

At 5pm, we fired the car up and i drove it home.
its got a new gox, 3 new engine mounts, included the ktec uprated top mount.
we never got round to doing the Aux belt.
