16v alloys on 1.4RT

Hi all

Im thinking of getting some 15" phase 1 16v alloys for my phase 1 1.4rt (92).

I was just wondering if anyone has done this and whether they have encountered any problems and could answer a few questions please.

1) Does it effect acceleration due to the bigger wheel size?

2) Am i likely to have to remove the mud flaps as the normal 13" are quite close to rubbing them when turning?

3) Will it increase fuel consumption?

4) Will it make the ride rougher or more comfortable?

Many thanks
Darren

1) Yes, Slightly

2) Dunno

3) Who cares, heh

4) Comfortable

.. Oh, they are quite wide, so rear arch can cause a bit of problems when -35mm.. or atleast, they did on mine.. Ive filed away a lot of the offending bits now tho!

I have the Phase2 16v... BRUN has Phase1s..

id say......

1) yes, very noticeable but not huge.....

2) mud flaps im not sure about, the arch mud guards most likely no

3) shouldnt do, though with a slight loss of accelleration then you might tend to put your foot down a bit more ?

4) depends on your tyres really, id say less comfortable to be honest but not by any great margin

okey doke!

I hear bigger wheels will make it faster at tops speeds? what sort of speeds will i start to notice this extra acceleration eg. 50mph+???

or not at all?

Thanks

youll need to get rid of ur mudflaps mate, i had problems on my old rt with the same alloys, best off with 195/45s as well if poss

wont be much slower and petrol will be not noticable, expecially on a 1.4. ride will be good but heavier stearing if u dont have power steering

On mine, they have killed top end speed.. heh.

I didnt find it much heavier really compared to my steelies on steering - and I dont have power steering.. lovely.

Daz.

ok thanks all!

guess i might stick with the 13" for now! would love to have alloys but the only thing that puts me off is the reducing of acceleration :(

Oh well
