172 Cup... Restoration/ Moneypit

After a few months with RWD, I decided I wanted something fun again, something that reminded me of my 306 GTi-6.

Finding a bargain on these forums in March, I bought this 172 Cup the same day it was listed as it was literally around the corner.

It was cheap for a reason: gearbox shagged, exhaust knocking, rear exhaust mount non-existent, rear bumper cracked, front bonnet carbon wrapped, non-standard wheels.

However it was on 78k, had printouts for cams, ran sweet, has an uprated fuel pump for some reason and an FPR. Does anyone recognise it? It has a ClioSport sticker.

I upgraded the dogbone to powerflex (no pics).

So the gearbox lasted about 2 weeks before the diff blew up spectacularly while the driver may or may not have been doing a hard launch.

£425 lighter at Agency Transmissions, for a complete rebuild including new case as it was damaged, I had the gearbox back:

Can't forget a new clutch:

Once ran in went for a blast with a mate:

Stuff to do:
- Induction: filter on throttle is not cool. Either standard or home-made like the new K-Tec one.
- Wheels: Not sure on the Rota wheels. May sell and get standard or 2118 or other.
- Rear bumper/ Chav Mirrors - have these sorted need to pay
- Cambelt, Aux, Dephaser - Probably BTM
- Suspension - not sure yet

Oh and the clocks are weird, they have a white background, they rev to 7k with no red around the limit, and the speed is 10mph out. I think they are lower model ones so going to get some from eBay with the correct mileage.

This is being taken to Europe in the summer for a 2.5k trip, so want it perfect for that.

Saw this at Piston Heads I think, parked a few along from me.

You need to loose the M3 mirrors IMO will help muchly in loosing the 'chavyness'.

Yup that was me. The mirrors and bumper would already be gone but had to spend the money on the clutch.

Will have them done soon enough though.
