Id come with you, I bought my Spax from Dan.
Good sales man, that's all. (I sold them on after 8 month's and bought Bilsteins )
I bore witness to him trying to diagnose a car with a cambelt that had jumped a tooth or 2, and it would appear that he couldn't even tell that it was turning over faster than normal because it had bent valves and f**k all compression!! That was an instant way for me to lose any respect that I had for the bloke. Clearly knew everything. About f**k all.

I had to say something, sorry all for going off track.
Members on here lost thousands but all seem fine to wipe there mouths of it.
To top it off the guy is still trading, utter piss take tbh.

I'd be pissed at hundreds, that would be enough to be paying him a visit.

I always had trust for Dan, he serviced my R26 a few years back then did the crucial Cambelt change a year later. I did this all on the back of recommendations from this very forum. He answered his phone (almost always) and delivered the service I would have expected.

When I sold the Megane and bought the 182 it needed the cambelt doing, so I called him in October 2013 and had it booked in. I spent over £700 including the cambelt, aux belt, dephaser, re-seal the head and oil change. I drove it home that evening and parked up. The next day I come out to find oil all over my driveway. Looked under the cover and it was covered in oil. (Bearing in mind I'm not hugely mechanically minded) I hadnt a clue what had happened. So I took a picture and sent it to him, after trying to get through for at least 2 days (lucky it was half term and I didn't need the Clio) I ended up having to get it trailered from Milton Keynes to Bedford at the cost of £150. For him to tell me a cam seal had popped loose? I still don't know to this day if he was telling the truth. He had the car for another 3-4 days and sorted it for me but left the engine covered in oil, didn't clean it up properly and left the car in a state that it wasn't in before I took it to him. This experience made me swear I would never use him again (and I haven't) because he offered me nothing. No apology, no goodwill refund towards the cost of the trailer. All in all £860 lighter for dubious work that cost me a lot of hassle and inconvenience to get sorted.

He'd done well back in 2011/12 then completey messed it all up when I went back with the Clio. I still to this day have oil stains on the driveway (if anyone knows how to remove them that would be great?) but I do use Beaniesport in MK who have been excellent so far. So anyone close by look Chris up in FB.

It's been 6 months since I've got the car back from Mike and Will so thought I'd do a little write up - been mental with work and family so haven't had time to update!

Since getting it back I've driven the car probably once a week to keep everything moving and keep the car off the drive - mainly because I want to drive it everywhere!

So after getting it back - the first thing I did was to book a track day. It was coming up to 3 years since my last one so perfect time. Brands was booked.

After getting the car back, and with all the issues Will was having with the car (because of previous 'specialists' working on it!!) , mainly to do with fuelling, Mike and Will took the pump apart and found it had been butchered and botched together - so when that was fixed it was good to go and get mapped. There were a few miner teething problems with the map once i'd got the car back, stalling at idle, cold start was a bit hit and miss but on song it was epic! I told Will I'd booked a trackday and he wanted to check the car over before i gave it hell to triple check the map was ok.
I drove down one Saturday to meet Mike and Will and they took the car off me and gave it a hammering to make sure it was spot on. When i got the car back it was even better, so much smoother when just motorway cruising then absolutely tearing away when floored! An M4 and VXR 8 didn't like me on the way home put it that way!

So to the track day....it was a wash out lol! Just what I needed when I had just got my 350 wheel HP clio back haha! It was dry for about an hour in the morning so got some good laps in and test the car out and get used to it again. Oil temps were fine, pressure good. My biggest problem was getting used to braking points and what gears to be in again as I'm now going much faster than before.

Issues that came up on the day...

Need a diff! As i'm running a mac valve the power is really progressive and be controlled by the throttle but to really get the power down out of corners, i need a diff!
Oil catch tank - spewed a bit of oil from the breather
Fuel swirl pot - getting fuel surge when on 1/2 tank
Pretty much set the mintex 1144 pads alight breaking into paddock , see pic below (new pads purchased!)
Front shocks leaking slightly

Considering the car has pretty much been standing for 2 years - that's not too sad. Engine wise and map wise - it is immense! So much so i've now booked another evening session at brands on the 17th June.

Pics below!

That'd get on my tits! Idiots in rear wheel drive motors going side wards . Do they not realise doing that crap is slower than driving a corner properly. Well driven !

Another trackday down! Went for an evening session at brands again on Wednesday 17th June - hottest day of the year so far!! I nearly didn't make it though!

Went to fill up with petrol the evening before, on the way back home I pulled away from a roundabout and heard a metallic twang! Then 2 seconds later heard it again and heard something knock underneath the car and fly down the road.... After pulling over to investigate and running back up the road it turns out my gearbox mount snapped in 3 places and decided to take the gearbox thread with them! Argh!

Long story short, with the help of many people, mainly Alex White doing a late night drive to get the part, I managed to get the thread heli coiled and get the mount back in! Phew! Started the car, misfiring....great! After a minute or 2 of idling it went away and idled ok, maybe a bit lumpy. I packed the car and off I went to brands.

Half why there I noticed my water temp was reading only 1/4 hot on the gauge and the car was lumpy, didn't really bother me too much as it was still running ok.

Got to Brands, and started the session. With the slicks now fully up to temp I was getting fuel surge even just below a full tank! Car performed pretty dam well, although still reading a low temp and running a bit lumpy.

Turns out the CTS sensor or has snapped right off, so I was batting past Evo 's and Porsches on the cold map all day, I didn't even twig when I was hitting the limiter at 6k revs lol! Lesson learned on test one!

So that's 2 x trackdays done now and the car is still spot on bar a few little mishaps. Gearbox and clutch still feel good too!

Turbo Cup FTW!!

I'll get some pics up of the trackday when I get them through

what size fuel pump and injectors are you running? Are you going to look into a swirl pot to help with the surge?

I'll deffo be looking into a swirl pot set up when i get back from holiday, I'll start collecting little bits as i go. Ideally wanting to tuck it all away in the spare wheel well, so it's out of the way a quiet, as I've heard the pumps can be a bit noisy!

Current set up is Walbro uprated pump and 630cc or 690cc, cant remember which!

Same set up as me currently then, yet to take
Mine on track I'm hoping I won't get any surge, was it only when running on slicks you were having bother?

What sort of spec is yours? High boost? If so, I think you'll struggle around corners between the 3/4 tank and 1/2 tank mark. Even on the wet trackday i did on road tyres i was getting surge just below 3/4 tank.

Around 300/300 atm on a gt2860 not sure what duty the injectors are at but boost is 1.1bar, don't you mean you were getting surge between 1/2 and 1/4 tank? Surely not once it got below 3/4?

I got a swirl pot and external fuel pump setup in my cup if you are after any advice / help / pictures on how to route stuff

That'd be awesome mate, feel free to post them up in here....

Just need to look into the regs as ideally I want to do a few races in it next year or the year after, so it'll save me doing it twice lol!

Can't even imagine how fast that must be. Hopefully I bump into you at Brands one evening this summer. Would love a passenger lap!!

Mine is only 200bhp lol. 385 must be MENTAL.

It's taking a bit of getting used to that's for sure! Next time I'm down there I'll let you know and you can come out for some laps!

Hoping to get to some meets at some point too!

Ordered and fitted another CTS sensor and car started on the button with no misfire or lumpy idle - perfect!

The big pool of petrol appeared under the car - a perished fuel return hose is the cause! Doh! And lost about a tenner of Vpower lol!

Not a biggy - will be ordering some hose over the weekend and then taking it out for a drive !

Just read this from start to finish, awesome project mate!
Thanks! Got a long way to go before I'm happy with it too, but it's getting there - slowly but surely!

I received the fuel line this morning, so I'll fitting that tonight then going for a drive.

I've also found that one of my slicks is completely flat, I hit a curb at brands a bit harder than i would have liked on the last track day. It started to go down slowly on the day too. No visible signs of splits or holes, so I'll be taking it to a tyre place as hopefully just needs a re-seal.

The car hasn't covered many miles since July. Managed to get to a couple of meets, then got bogged down with work and all the grief associated with moving house!

It was worth the effort for moving though, as I can now spend time in the warm and dry tinkering and doing all the bits I couldn't do before! So much easier having a garage, don't have to worry about parts being left un fitted, and the car being in various states. Plus when it's cold, dark and raining in winter i can still go in and get stuff done!

Again....quite a few months since I've updated this...

I've decided I'm going to try and make a leap into Time Attack. I've been toying with the idea for a few years but always talked myself out of it. So I decided to just do it!
That means updating some well overdue parts! See below for some problems and solutions!

Problem 1: Suspension in 11+ years old, starting to leak very slightly and generally needing an upgrade.
Solution: AST 4100 have been ordered

Problem 2: Gearbox history is unknown and with 350hp to put down a diff is deffo needed.
Solution: New gearbox purchased, a general check over will be completed and parts replaced if necessary - oh and a quaife fitted at the same time

Problem 3: Discs have been on there for a good few track days and are starting to get tired. Rears are shot, rusty as hell!
Solution: New OE rear discs and pads, brembo max front discs to go with my DS 1.11 pads for track

Problem 4: Fuel Surge
Solution: surge tank and additional pump will need to be ordered (not yet done)

Problem 5: All bushes are the original 13 year old items and starting to perish
Solution: Full car kit of black series bushes

I think that's it for now! Keep posted for more updates and a lot more pics!
