172cup-removing sparewheel area (welding)

  clio rs
my 182 ktr exhaust conversion goes around the space wheel area & knockes abit, also when putting shopping in the boot, the carpet sinks in.

Iv been quoted 140 pounds from a pro welder to remove the space wheels area, do u think its worth it, its empty space, so no spare wheel in there. or will it de-value the car??? will it effect MOT...

please give advise:dapprove:

depends how he intends on doing it, if he's going to fit the boot floor section from a 182 and make it look factory then yeah

but if he's just going to cut it out and whack any old sheet metal over the hole then no

to be honest i wouldn't, i would just get the exhaust moddified/remade

I personally wouldnt touch a car that had had its spare wheel well removed.
How is the buyer to know the car hasnt been damaged and then repaired?

As long as its done properly it wouldn't put me off buying the car - just take progress pics and put it with history along with the reciept for the work....

have you seen how much they flex!!

Unfortunately! Got a spare wheel resting on mine, hoping the floor stays in one piece!

It's the kind of thing I'd do for a proper race car prep - although I'd probably bond and rivet a carbon fibre panel in, idealy as a semi stressed member.

Just welding a flat sheet over it won't really give you anything!

Cheers
