197 in 172 cup?

  172 cup TT
Just pondering... as a reliable 197/200brake is good couple of grand to get out of a 172, what would happen if you came accross a written off 197. Would the engine go straight into a 172?... obviously would need to be done on the cheap as anything over £2.5k for engine+labour wouldnt be worth it... but it would be an extra 25 brake + have potential for maybe 210/215 with the standard air and chip mods... actually, damn, they are 6 speed arent they... bugga. But do you think we maybe seeing these transplants in say a year to 18months maybe? MattB seems to have millions of 172 engines at anyone time, how long till he has the same amount of 197's to buy

Anything is possible with time and money i suppose. I think the biggest problem will be the gearbox and actually squeezing it all in.

  cock mobile.
Would it mount to the 5 speed box? If so would the engine not respond as well as the gearing would be different?

i have no idea, but am sure if you then had to change the box too it would be far too costly i guess

Best stick a Honda engine and box in with custom shafts and mounts you'll need shafts and mounts making for the 197 engine so its no more difficult plus you'll ned a stand alone ECU to make a 197 run unless you use the 197 ECU UCH etc. The Honda engine is a more potnetial and better gearbox anyway.
Its a lot of effort to make it fit I'd think.
