Afternoons work if you’ve done them enough to know which way everything comes apart.

youll need a new o’ring for the cylinder headend of the oil feed pipe aswell. But usually , it’s undo the cat and it’s bracket underneath , air box , Oil feed pipe , turbo outlet hose , inlet hose , 3 nuts on turbo to manifold and you can get it out the top by pulling engine forward with the engine mount to body bolts off (dog bone mount too )

Thanls mate. I think thats beyond my skills to even attempt. Rough idea what a garage would charge for something like that?

thanks mate you are always very clued up.

whats involved with changing a turbo? Is it difficult? Bolt on bolt off?
Undo the cat/downpipe which is 3 x 12mm nuts (usually a c**t to get off)
Oil return which is a T 30 or 35 I think
Oil feed line
Little metal clip for the exducer side to the intercooler
7mm for the turbo inlet pipe
Then the 3 nuts that hold the turbo to the manifold
Undo drivers side mount and dogbone and pull engine forward with it supported on a jack

MOT booked for Friday this week. Not sure what the outcome will be....

And then when driving home tonight something major has failed. I think it might be the turbo!?!? The car will cruise along but as soon as you put your foot to the floor it will just rev as though its in neutral. You can hear the turbo spooling but theres no power. Also that juddering sound i was getting is happening when putting my foot down on the power.
Any ideas what this could be?

Check your boost pipes first

If it's not that then the turbo will have finally given up mate

Pull the inlet pipe off of the turbo and play with the impeller
Just been for a drive and it isn't doing what it was last night. It did slightly but then stopped. Its as if you can hear the turbo more, like a mini hoover, but maybe that's because im specifically listening.

Check the air filter and look for boost leaks. If you know anyone that vapes get them to blow vape into the turbo a load of times and look for any leaks haha

lol is there a way to look for boost leaks without vape haha?

will have a look at the filter. Why could it be the filter though?

Look for any oil droplets in places, if theres a leak it will be letting oil out judging by your EGR
Yea mate theres oil under the bottom of the turbo. We looked at it yesterday at the MOT.

any idea what a garage cost would be for a turbo replacement? Working out whats the best thing to do with it.

Couple of hundred quid plus parts at a guess

I do all my own stuff so jot sure on prices. Where abouts are you located as there will be someone I know/know of that could help out

If its revving and going nowhere, surely the clutch has failed? Load it up in a high gear
Thats what i thought at first mate but it got me all the way home from newcastle. When going up hill on the 19 under load it would rev up as though it was in neutral, but was obviously still driving.

If it slips when accelerating hard, it will be clutch related. The pressure plate is prob on its last legs.

No time at the moment to do any work sorry mate, snowed under.

no probs mate. Would clutch not slip in all gears? It felt like it was slipping in 4th and 5th. Goi g to have a run out init again later amd see what its like

Gearbox oil leaking into the drive too. Noticed it a few days ago but now theres a decent amount visible on the drive. Could this be linked in with the clutch?

Yep can just have slip in higher gears when trying to accelerate hard initially. The judder you have experienced recently will have been the start, clutch is probably down to the rivets or pressure plate is weak, or poss even contaminated with oil if you have seen a leak from that area?

Get it done sharpish before it goes, and would avoid hills lol.

Yea mate theres quite a bit of box oil dripping. What could cause that and do you think that will be something else that needs to be fixed?

Does the clutch pedal feel s**t at Austin? They're hydro on these and the slaves pop sometimes

Would it be possible for brake fluid to be leaking directly underneath near the dog-bone mount or are there no brake pipes down there?

Yeah that's why I asked mate, the slave cylinder uses brake fluid for the clutch rather than a cable like a 182

It could have blown the seal out or popped the slave. Surprised its driving at all tbh if that's happened😂

ah right well that sounds likely then as im sure brake fluid is leaking as it isnt normal to have to top it up, especially twice.
Tell me more about the slave and what this is / involves? Are we still talking clutch? Easy repair or not?

In short when you press the clutch pedal the slave cylinder uses brake fluid to push on the clutch to disengage it. Your clutch will be ruined and if its spraying brake fluid around I'd get your rear main seal replaced while you're in there too

Basically, gearbox off to the side, clutch off, flywheel off, rear main seal replaced, clean everything to an inch of its life, replace the slave cylinder in the gearbox with loctite on the bolts, flywheel back on with new bolts, new clutch on, box back on, refit whatever you moved and bleed it up. Might cost you a few hundred quid but after that you should have a solid motor again

Super mate cheers for the advice least i have some idea now of what is needed. Just need to find somewhere decent to do it. Is it the type of job any normal garage should be able to do without issue or is it more of a specialist job?

Yeah any decent garage can do it mate. Give Kris at Rensport a ring, he's clued up and will probably have it done in half a day
Is he operating full time? Im sure last time i tried to get in touch it was just open every now and then and i struggled to get in contact.

I had the clio towed to Ren-Sport last night by the RAC. Id bought a 12 month membership code on here 10 months ago so it finally came in useful.

kris at Ren-Sport has messaged me today to say it ws a nightmare to get the clutchout and that the inside of the box was soaked in oil, and the clutch and slave cylinder well and truly gone! He also thinks its still on the original clutch which is good going if it is.

Back on the road again thanks to Kris at Ren-Sport. First time I have met Kris and very grateful for his help getting the clio back on the road within a few days.

Ended up being a bit of a pain with subframe bolts seized on and damaged clutch line but Kris still got it sorted and back running.

Anyone in the North East looking for a Renault Specialist i would 100% recommend Ren-Sport.
