Bent rear axle beam

Garage says i've bent my rear axle putting it 9mm out on tracking. What the best way for me to fix this?

Is it possible to straighten a bent axle? is a new axle expensive or hard to source (could i get one from a scrappy)? is fitting a new axle a technically difficult job?

Garage wanted 400 quid to fit it, is this reasonable or could it be done for cheaper?

Having got a second opinion i'm not convinced the axle is bent. Does anybody happen to know the symptoms that would arise from a bent rear axel? i've read about vibrations whilst driving but i get none of them.

renault breakers in accringhton will get u an axel. i got mine from them.. and 400 to fit it is way 2 much.

i wa charged £190

for rear axel, wishbone, both steering rack ends, cv boot, and few other stuff, like oil change and everything..yh mates rates but surely £50 tops to fit it?

if the tracking is out of tolerance on the rear, its all it can be!
didnt you knock one side on the rear?

Yeh i did knock one of the sides. Its been to two garages now, one of them reckons the axel is bent, the other says theres no way its bent and its something to do with some sort of bracket on the rear wheel being knocked out of place :S

The one offering to replace the axle wants silly money imo and the other is to busy to take the car for the next 2 weeks. My knowledge on cars is VERY limited and i have no idea which one is telling the truth, both are adament they're right.

If its the axel, which it may well be, am i safe to be driving the car around atm?

If you brake hard, I think it might squirrel a fair bit, wouldn't it? Especially in the wet.

I'm pretty sure you could pick up an entire rear beam for £100 or less if you have a search around. If you don't know what you're doing, probably best to buy it and get your local garage to swap it over (will probably be another £100 in labour)

If you've smacked the rear then something is most probably bent. Take fred up on his offer, then you can be certain.

Guys, would leaving the car up on axle stands on the rear axle beam bend it? I've read on here it is a jacking point but just wanted to check....
I had it up on the axle stands while i changed break pads etc, and will do again soon when i remove calipers and paint them....

handbraking them in to a kurb usually dose this u will tell by looking at the rear of the car and see how far in the wheel sits the one that sits in more will be the bent 1
