Black 182 Track Toy...

  MK7 Golf R, Clio 182
@andy_con 's pedals went on today with the extra wide throttle pedal. Hopefully will inprove my heel/toe 🙈

New disks up front. And trying to refit the brake ducts better. All getting ready for Snett on the 8th.

  MK7 Golf R, Clio 182
So managed to pick up another box with a quaife diff in so we were on the night shift trying to get it sorted the night before Snett. Finished at 12.30am

IMG_4725.JPG

The difference with the diff is huge. So much better out of the corners. Was a bit worried about how different it was going to be considering it's not a cheap mod but 100% happy with it now. New disks have solved the juddering under braking so I must of warped the old ones.

Snett itself was great in the morning. Really liked the circuit but rain stopped play for me in the afternoon. Was way too wet and I only had the 888's so it was lethal. Going to pick up some rainsports this weekend so that should help. Couldn't find any decent pics though sadly.

Next is Donny again on the 19th but we have just booked 2 days on the trot at Spa in October so can't wait for that!

  MK7 Golf R, Clio 182
Little update as it's been a month. Been to Donny again. Managed a 1.26 which is 2 seconds behind the boys that race so bit more time to be had. Car is behaving well.

Got the car mapped today by Chris at EFI and got good power with the mods I've done so very pleased with that.

Spa is booked for 23/24 Oct so looking forward to that. Lots of other parts arriving like and oil cooler and lower seat frames but haven't had time/space to fit them yet. I really need a double garage.

Ordered the Msa start pack so booking my ards soon and getting that out the way. Then we can start looking at the final bits for race prep over winter and get ready for next season....

So it's been a while since I updated so thought I'm due a write up. So we went to Spa. Had the time of my life despite the weather not being amazing. The best circuit I've ever driven hands down. Went with a group of us so had such a laugh. Anyways pics.

The trailer I bought for a steal which has been brilliant and a complete game changer in terms of cost of a day out. Came with a tyre rack, electric and manual winch and 2 sets of ramps. Car wise I got a new front bumper as the old one took a battering coming off the recovery truck at snett. Haven't bothered with the canards again and got some of the eBay brake ducts. Car was faultless at Spa and already planning next years trip.

I've started to get the last of the race prep gear together. Got my msa starter pack, booking ards soon. Hopefully looking to join tricolore and tin tops next year.

Since then we have been to Silverstone. We got lucky with the weather and it was dry but bloody freezing. Still a great day out and enjoyed the circuit. Was a busy day and a lot of super cars there with drivers who obviously haven't spent much time on circuit. But it's a great feeling nudging on a 100k Audi in a 2k Clio :smilingimp:

No more track day plans as of yet. Bit of a gamble now with the weather. Hopefully the car will be back at my mechanics early next year to have the interior painted and a bit more weight loss including fiberglass panels and lexan windows. Last of the race prep will be done then too. Also find the bc's aren't really stiff enough anymore now I'm getting confident with the car. On the lookout for a set of AST's for the right price. Will update as we go...

Are you not tempted to try changing the springs rather than the whole coilover assembly? New springs are very cheap.

Or are you dead set on ASTs?
One thing that puts me off the 5100s is the lack of adjustment, they only have rebound adjustment. So no option to stiffen or soften depending on conditions.

Currently trying to decide between BCs with a high spring rate, or to save up the extra for the AST 5100s.
Leaning more towards getting the BCs and the money ive saved towards a Gripper diff..

I've looked into it. But from what I've found out I would also need to send the dampeners off for recalibration to suit the new spring rate I want. Sounds like such a pain in the ass I thought it would be easier to just get ast's. I like taking more experienced guys advice and everyone who races clios runs ast's so that says it all for me.

That said the bc kit is very nice especially with their adjustable top mounts. And if your buying new and spec'ing stiffer springs your probably gonna be fine. I'd say your gonna be faster and and have more fun with bc's and a gripper than just ast's. Difference diff makes is night and day.

Someone's probably going to tell me I'm talking b****cks but that's my 2 cents.

The AST 5100 setup has ample ride height and rebound damping adjustment for the Clios. We have a Clio 200 CUP race car here on 5100's that significantly out cornered Renaultsport France own car in Dubai. Open championship winner's use the 5100 and several race series spec 5100 in their regs. The AST dampers are built for racing.

With regard to springs, be careful with just adding stiffer springs. The damper and spring respectively need to do their jobs. You won't get the scenario you desire by compensating poor damping with higher spring rates.

Feel free to drop us a message to discuss.

There you go @Alex__ someone who knows what they are on about. I'm going to treat myself to some at some point. Just got a million things to do first.

This looks bloody fantastic! It's like a good version of what I'm trying to do (badly!) ha.

I also recently bought the same Splitter and Canards that you have, and a roof scoop! ha. Going to try to install myself and c**k up no doubt.

Thanks! There is still so much I want to do.

The splitter is obvious as the holes for the bumper are for existing holes so that's simple. You need two further back which you have to install yourself. We used captive bolts in the end to make it easier to take on/off as before I got the trailer we had to get the car apart to get in on the recovery truck.

With the canards I did one side where it looked good. Then just measured a million times for the other side. Put the second side on with some tape/blue tack first and triple check then just go for it.

I see you’re in this video from around 18.20 and 52.00........

The first one looked abit close! I was surprised to see how much traffic there was on such a big track

I am so glad you found this. The guy was a complete f-ing nob. What he didn't say in the video was that he was black flagged for causing incidents and almost got sent home.

  MK7 Golf R, Clio 182
And I mean it was that bad everyone got stopped after lunch and told off by the organiser. The guy even said "where is the guy in the Ibiza? He's had so many complaints".

There was some seriously expensive cars in that video he got pretty close too.

Been a bit more time since I was on here. Car is still the same but I’ve been collecting parts like mad.

Passed my ards test and got my race licence. So went to autosport international and bought myself a race suit  Also saw the Team Formula Racing TT Evo which obviously is insane...

Also managed to get my hands on a set of AST 5100’s. Struts were good but the springs a little soft for what I wanted so Simon at AST has hooked me up with some much stiffer ones. Service has been great

Might sneak off the Snett on the 11th of Feb for all this to be installed before the car starts getting taken apart again but we’ll see...

I was cringing watching that guy in the Ibiza, giving the middle finger to people as he forces his way past. And almost goes into the side of that Porsche mid-corner 🙈

Where are the lightweight bootlid and bonnet from by the way?

He was a nob to say the least. They are from CCF. https://ccf-fibreglass.co.uk/t/renault-clio-172182-fibreglass-body-styling Very happy with them.

So when are you going to fit a spoiler and front splitter like that evo onto the car then

When I have 1200hp instead of 185 😅 In all seriousness though I’m pretty set on racing now and for tin tops no aftermarket aerodynamics are allowed and the car has to have working headlights so will have to take the blanks out :rage:

More parts arrived today. Plastics4Performance window kit and new springs for the AST’s.

  Hi comp phase 1
Hi.. Did you get your AST’s re-valved due to the increased spring rates ?

Hi.. Did you get your AST’s re-valved due to the increased spring rates ?

Not this season as time is a bit short and I want to get a lot of seat time in this year. Might get them refurbed by ast next winter and get the gearbox done at the same time.
