Bonet catch replacement information

  Z4
Couldn't shut my bonnet the other day on the clio, greased it all up and freed it off and noticed it looked rusty. Then i remembered the recall on the bonnet catches and had a small panic.

Searched on here and decided to get it looked at, took it to a Renault dealer (Holden) and they tell me it's been replaced in 2008 but it still needs replacing so quoted around 150 for the work! Is that right?!
I wouldn't pay that anyway I was seeing if I could get it done free.

They also gave me a list of things which they picked up on the safety inspection which I expected lol. My favourite being 'oil leak on sump' the line below 'oil overfilled' I haven't touched the oil level in near a years ownership lol, nor seen any leaks!

Thoughts?

Think most suffer with oil leak on sump, wouldn't worry about that! As for bonnet catch, £150 seems steep but would you want it coming up at 70 mph on the motorway?

No, hence me getting it checked!
In reality I'd fit it myself, but it's more of a principle matter. Renault have clearly fitted a substandard part despite the recall

When i went to renault warwick they said they would replace it for free even if it had been done before

Hmm as I expected then, sounds like I've been mugged off a little. May send an email/letter to Renault to see what can be done

Renault should replace the catch FOC, regardless of how many times it is needed. If the original claim has been done, then the dealer has to get payment from RCSD for the work. Should be nowhere near £150 anyway!

Doesn't help.....but coincidentally I was driving home from work yesterday and saw a silver mk2 Clio stopped, hazards on, at the side of the dual carriageway that I was on - bonnet right back over the windscreen, bent over the roof! Apparently no other damage so a good save by the driver, as they would have been doing 50+. Bit of a worry to see nonetheless, mine had the recall work done at a Renault garage - hope they did it right.....
