The yellow rocket 🚀 completed its first and likely to be its last track day at Bedford on Monday it performed exactly as expected the way this thing moves in a straight line is insane

however the pictures below have created a dilema for me I borrowed the track wheels from my cup racer now I think I prefer it with silver wheels

Was the copper gasket properly annealed?

I would give it another go using better nuts, inconel studs and either tab washers or NordLock washers before going to the expense/hassle of getting the manifold and turbine housing ground perfectly flat to be able to run without a gasket. Looking at that manifold flange face it needs a lick over for anything to seal regardless

Get the mating faces checked and sorted if necessary, and run no gasket. R5gtt doesnt run one, ive only had issues with manifold to turbo blow when one of the faces is miles out.

What the hell is annealed?

What the hell is annealed?

Copper gaskets need to be annealed (heat treated) to soften them so they conform to the faces they're between, or they don't work, it involves heating them to a dull cherry red and quenching in water

But nothing is sealing on that manifold flange the way it is, get the studs out and clean it up before doing anything else 👍

Ok I’ve looked into the annealing process looks easy and I’ve managed to find somewhere that will let me use there oxyacetylene

What that video doesn’t say is should I fit the gasket immediately after or can I anneal it like a day later or a hour later etc

In my mind the quicker I get it fitted the better but it probably doesn’t matter I’ll be doing the annealing later today thanks in advance

It doesn't matter, once it's annealed it's fine, it would only need doing again after it's been work hardened (I.e crushed between the two mounting faces) and you wanted to re-use it again.

I’ve decided that all this power needs more gears so I’ve had a dci gearbox built up with a black line lsd including “retro fitting” the speedo drive that the jc5128 was a missing this box has a longer final drive to try and make the most of all that power and hopefully it won’t top out fourth gear down the quarter mile anymore hoping to get in the 11s next year with this addition
