Buying Da

Hi finally biting the bullet and buying a DA, going for the kestrel da6. My question is am better buying other bits (pads and compound/polish) individually or would the AutoFinesse Revitalise kit be a good starting kit? initially it will used on my Pearl black 172 and the GF's pepper white mini. Already have some tripple and blackhole for glazing

Agree on buying separately.

Buy 3M pads and 3M polishes in my eyes, although the Menz polishes are my go to with 3M pads.

You will need;

  • Blue spot pad
  • Blue standard pad
  • Yellow spot pad
  • Yellow standard pad
  • Spot pad backing plate

The DAS6 will come with the rest.

Maybe practice with a pad and polish/aio.

Revitalise kit seems great as the pads go with the polishes etc but you need to master the machine first.

Menzerna pads are still top on the DA for me.

Polishes? Just depends really.

Not going to rush into trying to full a correction or anything near. But just looking to get started with some basic enhancement once I have had some experience with machine. Mini paint in pretty good condition ( had a professional enhancement last autumn) so just looking to keep tip top. The Clio on the other hand has a lot of swirls and light scratches/marring after 10 years and 70k. So looking to reduce some of this initially and as i get more experienced correct

I've got some of the buffing compound if you get stuck. Menzerna one, can't remember the number though

I'm not a fan of kits. If you're buying any buy the revitalise kit. Menz pads are shockingly bad.

would the polishes within that kit be good combo with the pads recommended above?

Adam, what stuff do you have already? have you used a filler glaze and all in one type product, or pre wax cleanser before?

the likes of tripple or rejuvenate will perform a lot better used with a DA. The AF kit is pretty decent as far as kits go, so won't see you go far wrong. Other option would be to buy the 2 softer pads and try these with something tripple and rejuvenate to get used to working the machine. Then step up and get the matching polishes.

i personally think using a DA with pre wax cleanser is a great start for a beginner, leaves a great finish, and something I prefer to go for instead of correcting.

Do you want me to see the name of the compound I've got? You can have a bottle if you cover postage.

The Megs paint cleaner is likely to be the small purple bottle you get free with the clay kits. Avoid. Useless product IMO.

Placed order, da6, the blue and yellow 3m pads, spot back plate , blue and yellow spot pads, menzerna super Finnish , and for good measure some rim wax and some extra masking tape

power finish is different to final and super finish.

And what do you plan to use the rimmers wax for? as it's not much good for anything other than cleaning the BBQ

106FA is fantastic but imo you bought the wrong pad. Not sure why you went 3m with a DA.

All my stuff arrived this morning. So cracked on this afti . Been getting on reasonably well , managed to get nearly 3/4 of the car done. Just took my time following all the advice on here. Really pleased with the results so far.
