Yeah, don't buy that. Love how he says it's been patched up but when you ask for photos he says it is minor and nothing to worry about.
He just wants you to go as you've already admitted to him if you turn up you'll buy it.

I've heard ph1s are a lot less refined than a ph2 so just bare that in mind, might be worth driving one so you're not disappointed when comparing to your old car? I'd check for rust there on every clio you go to look at tbh

ai unfortunately this to me is a 1500 quid car, it looks to of been looked after and its a nice spec but it needs a grand chucking at it to sort the rust on the rears (not that hard to do really, so no need to panic imo) and the gearbox.

if the lad won't budge on price he's not being realistic

I’m 5 minutes from Slough and gym there. What time are you thinking and I can swing by before or after the gym but in honesty, I’ll probably take one look (and have the info from this thread) and tell you to walk.

Tbh mate a don’t know if I am going to still go ahead with the purchase I txted him this morning and he said he could bring the price down to £2200 but still a lot of money for me if it needs a lot of work.

Plus I would be coming from Glasgow as well so fair bit of travel

Don’t make me feel bad haha. But in essence yes well I haven’t bought it as yet so to speak until wed. But I love the ph1 and they are getting rarer my dad still has his and I love the whole long front end etc.

What would yous do? Have I made a mistake[emoji31]or can I still find a diamond in the rough for my money.

I did want a turboed 172 but just trying to justify £5 the misses wasn’t having it haha

Phase 1 solid rear lights – these have been tinted red over the top with a film.
Grills, bullets, indicators all sprayed black.
Cosmetically the car is in very good condition; it is washed once a week with the correct methods and polished/waxed every few months. There is the expected stone chips across the front bumper and bonnet and does have a few minor marks around the car – however, it looks extremely respectable for a 14 year old car!
Negative points
Every car has them unfortunately!
The engine light is on due to the decat.
Roof has marks from where the sound deadening was removed.

Well guys finally come to a decision on. Car and put my deposit down on it tonight.

Renault 5 gtturbo phase 1.5 85k Miles she is beyond stunning and will be key standard but I can’t wait to Pick her up on weds

Be interested to hear what you think of it, power was around 120bhp and the Clio 182 is 180ish.
But my memory is of very rapid acceleration when the turbo kicked in, 0-60 in under seven seconds on a good day.
No PAS ABS etc
I bet that R5 Turbo was not cheap, does make you realise what a bargain the Clio 172/182 is for an old school hot hatch.

Well I had one before and my dad had a Gordini turbo so wen. Sold it and started driving the clios in the back of my mind wanted another.

Yes it wasn’t cheap but I will tell u how much I got if for on Wednesday. You could take a guess tho lol.

This isn’t going to be modified or tuned at all simply kept standard more than likely will never sell it tbh. Well a hope not lol

I saw you mentioned Ollie's Turbo'd Monaco, I can confirm its as good as it looks in the photos with all the right mods, done by the right people, used as his daily for a year (year since turbo conversion at ED) and never had any problems if that's the sort of thing you might fancy as well - it's the classic line again, you get what you pay for. He's a good friend of mine and I was actually out with the car last night!

No won’t be my daily as I have my company car.
A think I need to get a lock up for the car but in the meantime will need to buy a steering lock or somthing like that.

Yeah the Monaco is honestly stunning again. I have put a deposit on the r 5 gt turbo but if I go there and there is something not right with the car etc etc I still would walk away. End of the day a lot of money to spend and a want to spend it wisely.

Shame none of these cars are up scotland [emoji23][emoji23].

Yesss love the R5!

Before I caught up I was going to suggest a rethink on the ph1 as the rust repairs cost a fair whack along with a gearbox rebuild.

Excellent choice on the r5 though and it’ll only appreciate in value if you take care of it.

My 5 Turbo’s are both long dead. D715 MDB was stolen from the dealer a week after l traded it for a 205.
The other one H390 CVR l sold when l bought a Fiat Punto
Which soon turned out to be a mistake and l traded it for an Alfa Romeo after only two months

Don't worry, I get you. My mrs doesn't understand why I spent a fortune on my 106 Rallyé when it only leaves the garage to go to MOT lol.

Best of luck with the car man, make sure it's well locked up away from prying eyes.

Mate am on the same boat as you [emoji23][emoji23]. My misses is like how much is that thing surely your not buying that old shitty looking car and am like yeah because it’s cheaper than my clio???[emoji85]. Am in so much s**t wen she really find out how much I paid haha
