After my excursion off the track at tower corner on saturday afternoon this is the result of the introduction of my clio to the tire wall.

this was straight after i limped off the track.

It had stopped raining so i went and took some more pictures, excuse the quality as they were taken on my iPhone and then photobucket had its wicked way with the quality afterwards.

I'm still having trouble uploading the onboard footage of the incident but as soon as i figure out how to upload it it'll be posted.


She's off to the bodyshop tomorrow morning for a quote so watch this space and she WILL be returned to her former glory!

swapped ends whilst heading onto the grass on the right hand side of the track was heading towards the tires backwards/passenger side on, caught the slide and nearly got her back round and away from the imminent impact and just kissed the wall!

That hole(?) just behind the door will be a pain to sort. Good luck getting it fixed but I'd be surprised if that wasn't more than the car is worth.

Just buy another silver clio 172 bodyshell, they arent exactly worth a lot.

as said, the biggest problem is going to be that hole. the rest is simple- ish lol.

i really don't want to break it for parts or buy another.... i love this one too much to part with it!

As Ive just got one in 647 this weekend and am in two minds wether to fix it up or to break it, had kind of decided to keep as it drives pretty nicely, but could still break it I guess, all that is really wrong with it is:
wheels are nasty chav crap
tailgate has 3 big scratches on it
steering wheel has disintergrated
rear bumper has been cut for chavvy exhaust
needs a new speed sender in the box as the speedo is intermittantly working

If you wanted it I could do you a part ex against yours with you keeping those bits off of yours and anything else you might have thats particuarly good (ie if you have uprated suspension or brakes or anything) then i'll just have yours for its mechanical bits, im off work on monday next week for the bank holiday so we could meet up, swap all the bits over, you weigh me in say 400 quid to cover the difference between them and your back to where you started and with a car that hasnt had a hole ripped in the rear quarter which is going to be a right git to repair properly.

The car im on about is in taunton in somerset if you want to view.

Oh, its on 120K, not sure how that compares to yours, you would be welcome to swap the engine and box over though if yours is low mileage and you want to keep it, but I couldnt be bothered getting involved in that as well as im pretty busy, so if you wanted to do that I could just leave the car with you and you could swap all your bits into it, then put the engine and box etc from this one into the boot of yours and i'll come collect yours on a trailer (no point the engine from this one going back into it as i'd only be taking it out again anyway)

See what the bodyshop say first, but personally Im going to be surprised if they quote you anything sensible with a hole and scrape so deep like that in the rear quarter, but im not really a bodywork expert so I might be wrong.

We put a single dearer into the nettles at the top of that track, new carbon wing and front left suspension time

OP, it looks bad, but I've seen worse fixed (although it's all about value I guess - Ferrari will charge you £500k to stitch two halves of an Enzo back together but nobody would ever pay that for a Clio)

The "bit" you would need to weld in would be the whole rear quarter though if you actually want a decent quality repair, and thats going to be a serious amount of labour to be paying on a car of such little value, especially when you include painting it all afterwards.

IMHO you should never take any car on track that you care about.

You can of course drive slowly and be 99.9% sure you wont cause yourself to crash, but its perfectly possible that someone else might collect you in their crash through utterly no fault of your own.

If you just want to use it on track, you could filler it up to keep the water out and leave the paint as a battle scar, its not anything effecting it as a car, but if he wants it to be "right" again then by the time he pays for a decent paintjob and all the parts he needs I wouldnt be surprised to see it the wrong side of a grand to repair.
They just arent worth that, if it was a 5K car then it would be a different story of course.

Its not a case of if it can be repaired, its a case of if it makes sense to do so financially, no point throwing loads of money at it just to end up with a repaired car when you could get a straight one for less.

Still a good example of what can happen, although people generally shouldnt be trying quite that hard on just a track day.

stuff breaking it.. just get another wing,bumper chucked on and slap abit of bodge in the hole or do as laura suggested and weld a patch in... i always get people telling me not to bother getting my engine rebuilt and stuff as its a high miler and has a nasty dent in the rear quarter but i couldnt give 2 s**ts about the body work aslong as its mechanically sound.. i got some right queer looks at the RR day last yr at RS tuning as mine was filthy and looked batterd but its not all about looks as they found out when it kicked out a healthy 182.3bhp 160lbft with just a cat back on...

Swapping an engine requires a socket set, a borrowed crane a weekedn of your own time and a bit of common sense.
Doing bodywork though is actually skilled and requires expensive equipment.

So to most people with a bit of basic mechanical knowledge, swapping an engine doesnt have a cost.

But his best bet really would be to take me up on my overly generous offer and then he doesnt have to lift a finger and he's back in essentially the same car for peanuts.

There's no way i'd go to all of the hassle of breaking it, buying another one, then getting that up to scratch. (assuming yours has had the belts etc done and the mechanicals are up together)

Taking an engine out of one car and into another car doesnt need a belt if the car didnt need a belt to begin with anyway.
Sure you could make use of the opportunity to do it if you wished (i certainly would), but its not a requirement if you are just trying to get back to what you had pre-accident.
