Changing 172 Cup Rear Brakes???

Hello,
Having a few problems replacing the rear pads on the Cup.... when the pads were off we were unable to move the piston back far enough for the new pads to fit. The only theory we have is that we need to slacken off the handbrake cable as it looks like the handbrake works the pistons??

Does anyone know if this is the case before we go and attempt it !!!!!!!

theres a groove in the piston, you rotate the piston clockwise this in turn screws the piston in giving you enough room for the new pads, take the resevoir cap off too.
