Changing 182 (54 reg) Battery.... (Renault quoted £120 for parts + labour?!)

  L'arctic Bleu Clio 182FF
Hi All,

Will be changing the battery on the 182 in the next couple of days, given that Renault want silly money to do it. I've picked up a Bosch battery for £40+vat through a mate in the parts trade, so want to fit it myself.

I have searched the forums and not found much in the way of guides etc.

Could anyone talk me through it? Is it difficult? Anything important i should be aware of?

Also, it is suspected (so the RAC man said) that there may be a problem with the immobiliser too. Before i take the car back to Renault (with no warranty ) will it be ok to change the battery and check that fixes the problem? Is there a risk of damaging the new battery? I thought if i do the battery myself, it will safe Renault ripping me off as they quoted £120 parts + labour?!

Thanks for your help!
Martin

erm , one bolt right hand side releases the battery, disconnect the terminals

thats it

u`ll need radio code if its a renault one

tbh my bosch battery cost 70-80 but i iwent for next size up as there was choice of 2 on clio, its a tighter fit but works so itll do me

Thanks dude.... thats what i thought, i could only see the bolt on right, didnt know if there were more that were awkwardly placed etc!

If i put the new battery in, and it still wont start, i.e. immobiliser light flashes, is there anything else i can do myself before i bite the bullet and take it back to Renault main dealer (and get robbed)?

you cant go wrong dude just undo the 13mm bolt and 10mm for the battery terminals pull out old drop in new do up 13mm bold recconnect terminals tighten 2 10mm bolts, immobiliser will be fine but if it was to do that then yes you would have to go to renault.

tbh changing the battery is the easiest job on a car =P

as above just make sure you have your radio code. And dont ever consider paying someone to change a battery for you again xD

Have the battery off now, was pretty simple!.... but as r8byb said, my big fat hands are gonna struggle when trying to get the bracket back on!...
