Re: Chris's Black Gold Trophy to be

how bads the buckle mate i do wheel refurbs and you can get em out
Hi mate 2 of them are quite severe, 1 isn't too bad and then 1 isn't buckled at all.

If only 1 of the wheels had been buckled I wouldve just got a new one from speedline and kept a buckled one as a spare but with 3 of them being buckled its not worth it

Exhaust sounds nice mate, although would be too loud for me as i'm an old man now so like a quiet Milltek :)

I know mate, I dont have to travel much on motorways anymore so its bearable round the doors. Although it sounds awesome when on full chat I've got to be honest, I'm developing into a big chav and its all the yozza's fault lol

Re: Chris's Black Gold Trophy to be

Gutter about the wheels mate :( hopefully you'll come to ssome sort of agreement.

How comes you chose to go 2118s over turinis?

Also what coilovers did you get?

Payday was looming and the 2118's were reasonably priced, I wanted to do them gloss black with anthracite graphics so a few kerb marks didnt matter, however them being buckled does.

So as you said there, turinis are now going on, should be on for the weekend.

I went for spax coilovers mate, always wanted to try out a full strut rear set up on a clio and seeing as there is a good offer on them at the minute I thought I'd jump in whilst I had the chance :)

Austin's looks the nuts when it comes to anthracite turinis on the bg.

Yeah the spax are a great price atm. So youve gone for the more track focused setup? Once there on you'll have to have a write up in here on your options on them. I'm looking them myself however it will be a good few months yet before I purchase, but its always good to hear people's views on them and the pros and cons they have found.

Re: Chris's Black Gold Trophy to be

Well this thread needs updating with some propper pictures of the car last weekend.

Had a problem with the car on the same journey as the video was taken that I posted before, a random misfire was occuring, so I thought it best to get the car strapped down to a set of rollers and do some running on them whilst looking at the live data for the ECU. There was only one man I trusted for this so Wednesday saw me and my bro travel down to paul@RS tuning in Leeds. Paul also agreed he'd do some power runs of the car to see if any improvements had been made since the last time I was there.

2 fault codes appeared, one for the post cat lambda (de-cat) and the other was the TDC sensor. So I'll be ordering one of those in the next few days and get it back to full health.

Here are the RR results:

f78ffaa0.jpg

de6df5e2.jpg

Quite spooky the times it made its best power Red - previous occasion Green - Most Recent run

43ee044d.jpg

As you can see by this power run the car had been ran a few times to check for the faults so maybe heat could've been a factor in the peak figure.

Anyway, mods since the last time are:

ITG Maxogen
De-cat
Yozzasport Cat back system.

Figures were 174.5bhp at the flywheel with 153lb.ft torque. Not bad for a standard mapped car, Improving around 10bhp and 10lb.ft in the mid range with the current mods

Paul is quite confident the car will be good for 180bhp with one of his remaps however I think I'll opt for a set of Catcam 438's to really optimise the mapping work, Paul says the mid-range will be significantly improved as you can see at 3-3500 rpm it has a big dip in power and torque.

I'm still convinced the timing isnt 100% so I'll be dropping in to Fred@btm to get that checked out at some point when I'm passing.

Thanks for looking

looks like the maxogen etc paid off.. although like you said 2 me the original exhaust would of been strangling it..

Looking really tidy Chris! Nice power gain since the last dyno run, I didn't think the exhaust and air filter would of made that much difference!

Got my private plate transferred from my silver cup so glad its tidied up now.

Just got this one from bonxy from a meet tonight, spent the weekend doing some paint correction on the car as it was disgraceful

So then as mentioned above, I spent some time (15 hours) a couple of weekends back getting the paint on the BG somewhere near where i want it.

Process was:

Rinse the car
Snow foam
clean shuts, window seals etc with APC whilst the foam was dwelling
Rinse Foam
Washed using zymol auto bathe
Iron X'd lower halfs, tailgate and wheels
Rinsed
Clayed
Washed again
Taken inside to get a feel for what I was in for.
I used a Yellow 3m Pad with a test session for some chemical guys & poor boys products. However they both turned out to be crap, so used some remains of menzerna I had lying around to finish the car off.
I did a final finish with menzerna via a blue 3m pad.
Once the polishing was done it was dusted down and given a coat of dodo juice blue velvet wax. I couldnt find my zymol so had to make do with that for now.

Heres some pics anyhow, check out those swirls

This is what I'm dealing with:

The drivers rear quarter has some rather dodgy sanding marks in, must of had some paint in the past

Some other randoms showing the level of correction I got, I'd say probably around 70% Correction compared with what I started with, unfortunately I had to have the car out by 7.00pm on the sunday, so I think another full weekend on the paintwork should sort it out and I reckon I can get between 90-95% correction on the panels.

So this was a few days later, I ran out of time to get pics on the sunday, so these were around 4 days later with a bit of fly killing action on the front end

So thats it, oh forgot to mention got my private plate from the silver cup onto it now too :) looks soo much better.

An update on the cars present state:

On axle stands as I await a refund on my suspension, whether there was a problem with the rear end of the spax I'm yet to find out but I just couldnt get them to perform as I would expect a normal coilover to perform, they were too stiff/bouncy no matter what height I had them set at :(. Hopefully Dan@519automotive can get that done swiftly enough.

I'm probably looking to go full trophy suspension set up on it, or H&R's however the set I've planned on getting aint going to be possible to get for the next 6-7 weeks which would leave me up the creak without the car.

Whilst it's on axle stands I'm cleaning the arches out and going to give the insides of the wheels a good clean as they're minging after 8 years of road crap on them
Thanks for looking

Havent driven the car for a week due to the suspension going through the refund process with 519 and spax.

In the mean time I'm trying my best to source some original shocks and eibach sportlines. I plan on getting the eibachs customised and lowered a further 10mm on the rear and 12-15mm on the front, giving it a little bit of rake which I hope will help give better turn in without having to run mega ammounts of camber.

I've been eye'ing up some new wheels for the 182 this morning, think I've struck a deal, details I can say at the minute are, they're 4x100 with a larger centre bore than a clio. Not that exciting but something I've wanted for a while. Should hopefully be picking them up at edition 38 this coming weekend

Got a few things collecting up for the clio now, I plan on taking it off the road for around 4 months over the winter period and replacing a few things I'm not happy with, those things are:

Wheels which will be refurbished in Renault anthracite
Full engine bay detail, tidy up with a splash of paint here and there
4 new Michelin Tyres
Replace a few sensors I dont think are doing their job : Thermostat, Crank position and Lambda
Fit new Driveshaft
Fit replacement steering wheel with thumb grips intact
Fit Whiteline RARB

Potentially get gearbox rebuilt
Send it down to BTM for Belts, Dephaser, waterpump and Catcam 438's
Remap at RS Tuning

Sort some suspension out, which is all up in the air at the moment but should be resolved soon with the help of Spax

Just booked in at BTM for their new exhaust system, should be nice, I'll be running it at RS Tuning next month on the dyno so will get a comparison between the old vs new yozza with any difference in torque/power

Cheers mate, trying not to spend money on it tbh as it gets out of hand but the chance came for the BTM system so thought I best get one bolted up :)
