Civic Type R

mr greeper-i think you will find u r mistaken when u say that the ctr is beaten by other cars in its class-focus aRSe and the r32 do not outpace the ctr(depending on which magazine you read)both have very similair 0-60 and 0-100 times.the ctr wins in some and loses in some, the jury is still out on the alpha-how do you define what class a car is in,is it price or bhp etc.for pure value for money the ctr surely wins, all u renault owners call it a breadvan etc etc-yawn-yawn.i can keep up with a ctr me-big deal-what to 60mph?the ctr is a future classic hot hatch-can you say the same about the clio?better built more sought after better name-need i say more

"all u renault owners call it a breadvan "

Erm.....no we dont. Stop generalising. If you havent got anything sensible to say...........:p

  clio 20v

value for money, my old n-reg clio didnt do too badly against the ctr :devilish:

thats better value for money surely, and its not the best looking car uve got to admit, the breadvan thing is a joke and anyway evry 1 calls the clio a girls car

i do like the ctr but im not keen on the looks an i dont think its worth 15k

i think it looks finr (the CTR) but it is a tad high, i like the long thin windows.

Anyway, the 172 has got a more dynamic chassis, which has been prooven time and time again, but fact still is, the K90is a superior motor......

the F4R is mediocre......they could of done far better.

what is a girls car though lol a beetle id say not a 172bhp lightweight car with renault sport badges on that has a change up light LOL

Firstly I dont think the CTR is a breadvan, I think it is a decent FWD hatch. A future hot-hatch classic, nah! Since when has a proper hot-hatch been about build quality or whether or not its sought after?? To me its about driver appeal, ie handling, pace, cornering abilities.

Another thing thats always bugged me, why do CTR have such crap 1/4 mile times?

16k adi get it right!the ctr seems to be stuck in a class of its own(pricewise i mean)youve got clios etc in the 12k bracket-ctr/leon/fukkus 170(sh*te)16k bracket then focus aRSe-wrx-r32 in the 2ok+bracket.the ctr in my opinion is underpriced because it is rubbing noses with more expensive cars(i dont mean 0-60 and 0-100 times)i,m talking about build quality, reliability etc etc.as for breadvan i must admit it looks a bit weird from certain angles, but effin auwsome from others-and the engine sound when you reach 6k is to die for(had some women ducking for cover the other day)im just biased-must admit the clio is quick for the price-nothing like taking the michael out of 328/330i beemer drivers-boomshakala

indeed you are very narrow minded in that you dont lie or accept that any other car is decet....how can you sl*g every other car in the related groups?

teady 172-of course a classic car is about desirabilty-build quality.the civic also handles very well has a fantastic gearbox and of course the legendary vtec system(trademark).what does make a classic hothatch is ultimately performance-the ctr is up there with escort cosworths gti6s gti-rs etc.ctr outpaces standard escort cossies is that not a classic car?im afraid the renault falls into the NEARLY catagory.buy one next-you will see what i mean

  S2000

It does not outpace standard escort cossies! Youre going by stats, and the stats you will be comparing it against are the manufacturers claims vs mag times for the CTR, give the Cossie a 5K start and dump the clutch and the CTR wouldnt know which way it went!

As far as implying that the CTR is a better hot-hatch than the 172, well thats your opinion, i made my choice at the time and went for the 172. I know which is the better hot-hatch. Ill stay with CTRs in a traight line till the sun goes down and put them into a field if they ever have the stupidity to try and keep up down a country road!

i test drove the CTR. felt solid.. though slightly detached from everything, yet didnt feel any quicker than my mk1? especially in 1st and 2nd

teady boy calm down-i will run you into a field that would be big of you-then you woke up with your pyjamas stuck to your leg-what else do you go off apart from stats then.according to the STATS the ctr woops your 172 in every catagory-this is true also in real life

theres a red cossie near me. my mate previously had a mk 2 golf gti with lowered uprated suspension and stupid wide tyres.. he kept with one over some back rds near me.. the cossie was on the other side of the rd..he wasnt.. boaty 10 year escort with a stupid spoiler on if you ask me.

  S2000

Mate wake up, I wouldnt have to force you into a field mate your understeer and lack of traction will do that for you.

You say you can beat a Cossie, the stats, Ill guarantee you are looking at, are the manufacturers claims for the cossie. The stats you will be looking at for the CTR will most likely be autocar, hardly fair is it!

Id happily take you on over the 1/4 mile, Ill dip under 15s while youll struggle to get 15.5!

i think the CTR is good but i was expecting it to move the game on from my 172.. yet i didnt thats why i didnt buy one. Very good build quality, solid, although i might add that this is due to it being heavier, superb engines, gearbox brill but prefer in normal place. !72 more fun..

172 man-you just said it youself-very good engines/gearboxes-but since did a car being heavier make it a better car-is the 172 going to be reliable in 5 years time-what warrenty do you get on a new clio cup-my ctr came with 3 years warreny(90k engine miles)which i extended to a 5 year warrenty.hondas are bullit proof-no let me say that again-the engines are bullit proof.172 the ctr HAS moved the game along to your 172-the price alone tells u that.you are not going to get sti subaru performance for 16k.but better reliability engine build etc.the clio is fast but it weighs a lot less and the cup even more so.

i like my 172 due to me being able to randomly ovetake cars on give and take rds. If you view some vids on here youll see that the 172 didnt get embarrased by MY 99 scoobies on track if the driver got on the power earlier hed off beat them earlier. in fact he did pass it on the 2nd lap.. the 172 engine has nickel titanium valves etc i cane mine daily and 33k it postively flys. im well happy

  S2000

Being young I dont give a monkeys about a solid feel, or whether the car will still be running in 3 years, coz I wont have the car in three years time. Ill move the game on one for my next car, Im tentatively looking at the new WRX, very fast off the mark and easily tuneable, oh and 4WD! Still not sure if itll be miles quicker once going though!

teady i may add the scoobies are fast off the line if you give it full bore start.. ive read somewhere that to get them flying off the line you need to dial in 7k revs then side step the clutch... which will then last 2 weeks hehe. Im waiting on the megane RS

look speed dont make a hot hatch a classic its about allroundness ,looks character etc ...the civic is quick and so is the renault but neitehr have the same road pressence as...lets say an a clio V6!! classic cars are generaly cars that pioneer new ideas or are on a limited production or just mad!!

The civic is a little special because of the where the gear stick is, they are a pleasure to drive although not as involved as the cup or 172!

there is very little between the civic and the clio off the mark and it really comes down to the driver (this has been said a million times)

one reasion i didnt get a civic was the price difference!!

this is getting heated and turning into a im faster than you arguement.

And, yes the CTR as said has got more power, has a higher top speed and probably reaches it faster than the clio. Fine if you like motorways and airstrips.....whoppe.

But another fact is that you in your ctr will not get away from a 172 when you add corners. but put it ona track and whoopee, you have a heavy, top heavy, long wheel base, uncummunicative average car.

The 172 is also FAR older than the CTR and of course the game has moved on, surely your CTR is going to be passe when the megane sport comes out? Or in fact, any other hot hatch is goint o try to be faster.

And personally, i dont care about warrenties, longevity etc. Its there to be driven, im not gonna keep it for 5 yrs!!! christ, by then, bored would be an understatement!

This is getting boring.....your not making a point to anyone apart from the fact that your narrow minded. Why dont we make it more interesting, how bout, we go to a track day and see who can lap faster in your CTR?

I agree with that, i was going to point out to the ex-ctr owner who said his had superb handling clearly didnt know how to drive, i was dissapointed in the way it was uncommunicative compared to the Integra and Accord Type Rs.

Since when were Hondas reaching cult status? Theyre also not in their own price range, they have zero spec, air con costs £1250!

It is turning into a rivalry of speed, something i try to point out isnt the single attribute of a good performance car, but no one listens

The ctr hardly set the world on fire with its realease and it did get sl*gged for its handling. Apart from that it looks like a people carrier!! I actually quite like them, if I had too choose between it and a cup i would take a Williams. as for keeping up with a cossie - so what? Std cossies aint that fast and are about BIG power.

Arent the 0-60, 0-100, top speed figures for the CTR the same as a Cup? The Cup might not have the build quality as a CTR but you can get a Cup for £11000, CTR £16000 so an extra £5000 for build quality.

The Williams is a classic, no doubt about it, demonstrated by their price actually going up rather then depreciating. But as standard its not gonna keep up with a Cup or CTR. I personally like the Golf R32 anyway! Very expensive but I just love the looks and them hoooogee shiny wheels!!!

I have never driven a CTR but unless I had driven all 3 cars (Cup CTR 172) I would not go on magazines stats or b**ch about my car is faster than yours.

I would maybe have a bit of a chip on my shoulder if I blasted a CTR away on the road/track, but would I know if the driver was really going for it?

End of the day they are both fast cars, I went for my cup cos it was cheaper and I preferd the looks, I feel its more exclusive around these parts than a CTR.

What we need to do is sort out a race meet.............

Scott
