Few bits from our rally track day yesterday.
Another snapped inner CV too. Give the new shaft death and so far so good

that tom wood gets about mind you. and Nathan you need a Millington, the way you drive lol

haha toms one of my good mates. He wasn’t with me on sat. Just his names still on the car from last event.

And I’d love to do an event in something proper. See where I’d actually come. Beating most things in the class with a standard at the minute.

It's a shame that results are always dictated, to some extent, purely by obey. If you can afford a fancy car, you are in with a chance of you have a modicum of ability. I know a few guys who would do fantastically well, but they don't have £100k laying about to drop on a rally car lol. A shame but always the way sadly.

Just keep at it and enjoy upsetting the boys who are pouring money into it!

Some nice upgrades coming for this year. I’ve finally had the ohlins fully rebuilt and serviced. It cost a fortune but this is going to transform the car on the closed road rally’s as this year I’m competing in the msuk asphalt rally championship so the suspension upgrade was needed.

I’ve also fitted a new water pump and belt, new dust seals in the brembos, new CL6 pads, HC discs, new genuine Renault rear discs, BRT Motorsport rear brake lines due to needing to route the brake lines slightly differently with the wider coilover on the rear, 10mm stub axle spacer so that the inside of the wheel doesn’t touch the shock. I’m still running the 172 cup stub axle as the 182 stub and spacer would be way too wide.

I’ll have more pictures to follow but the cars also getting a new wrap design with some cool reflective wrap.

Nice upgrade those Ohlins. Are you doing every round of the championship?
The plan is every round except Jim Clark. I’d love to do it but Manx and that in one month isn’t fundable. It means I’ve got a good 2 months to get money in to go over to Ireland for the Tyrone stages.
I’ve got mrf tyres on me for sponsorship but still unsure as it would be a gamble. Especially when I’ve had 12 months on the Michelin’s and hoosiers

MRF are interesting I think. Apparently they have some very good engineers working for them. Going to be interesting to see how they develop. Would like to try them.

Yeah they’re got old Pirelli and Dmack staff now And they’re definitely putting some funding into the Rallying with what they’re doing with Breen. Only thing that’s putting me off is they haven’t got a 15” full wet until may and the deal wouldn’t be in place if I ran a Michelin wet if it rained.

So they want to sponsor you, but would rather you crashed if it rains than use a different tyre 😂 Do they do a 16" tyre? I guess that would be an option in the short term, as I'm sure a 15" tyre will appear eventually (though I guess 15" is pretty rare on homologated cars now). It's that or fit S1600 arches and go 17s?! :ROFLMAO:

Is it a decent deal? Sponsorship can be tough going, so I'd be tempted if you can find a compromise!

  Twingo 133 Cup,
Would they supply some ss or s cut to a wet pattern that you could use if needs be as compromise until a full wet is available?

Its pretty good. Will save me a small fortune on tyres, they do a rally slick in 15” now, just no full wet in 15” until may.

Yeah a wet compound cut would work. But when you’ve used Michelin wets and you have 6 new on rims the cut slick will be no where near in performance.

So I’ve decided to enter the network Q Chester rally revival on Friday and Saturday. Some iconic names and cars have entered, with stages through Weston park, Chirk castle, Cholmedeley castle, oulton park, rednal kart track and worlds end which is 500 metres from my house. It’s just going to be used as a test before north west stages.
It gives me a chance to set the suspension up and try the MRF tyres

Few issues already. I was missing 2 spacers that go on top of the shock. So had to use some spare Ktec mounts as these worked without the spacer. Number 4 I’m missing

The fronts will be coming off tonight just remove the helper springs as the cars still too high at the front.

I reckon if MRF are doing you a good deal (and you get on with them OK at Chester), I'd be tempted to go for it. A bit of budget saved for other things!

I was tempted to go to the Rally Revival, but no car unfortunately 😂

Got the tyres on ready for the weekend but I think they’ve made a mistake with the compounds, I have a wet compound and looking at the big H, a hard compound when really I needed soft. 😳

This would be where you shave the tyre logos off and then put the MRF tyre stickers on the Michelins lol

How was the event?

Looked like there was some lovely metal there.
It was fun, a little different to a stage rally. It ran more like a targa, I’d of liked a few more miles on the test stages and a little better maps of the test too, some of it was like driving blind, but other than that it was full. I was on the handbrake all day 😂

Couple more bits added to the car ready for a test on Sunday at traws ranges. It’s where I crashed the car last year 🙈 nothing stupid this time

Coronavirus put a stop on the first rally of the year but we still had a test yesterday, was still good to get out in the car and tweak a few more bits with the suspension.

It ended a little earlier than planed. Big bang and it jumped out of gear and on further inspection I’d split the gearbox casing

So having all this time off from rallying due to the virus I’ve ended up buying another clio.
This ones an ex cup racer that’s now a rally car. It needs work but with a few bits from my blue car I should have a fairly decent package for 2021

Should be a cracking upgrade this. A really good step up in performance. Lower arms are interesting. I like the rod end bearings on the inner joints, but using them on the outers would worry me a bit. Have seen them shear on heavy landings when used like that, as it puts a lot of shear stress on them.

The spoiler definitely needs to go. You need the S1600 arches to pull that off.
