After using the car for a while now the car felt disjointed and felt as though it was waving from side to side under hard acceleration, in fact it felt pretty bad and gave me no confidence when driving it hard.
I went to get the tracking sorted by a friend who works on the Cup race cars and he suggested that I have the hub replaced, as there was movement in the lower ball joint, the wheel wobbled when wiggled side to side. He noted that the lower ball joint looked as though that it had recently been replaced so was confident that this would be the issue.
Replacement order from Tim Finch, (breaker for Renault Sports) £28 and arrived the following day.
Replaced this evening and wow the car feels fantastic transformed it. So happy with how it drives now.
Replaced a friends Halfords 21mm socket that we snapped when replacing the front spring,
5 Litres of oil ready for the oil change and the replacement hub:
Faced one issue in that the ****ing disc locking nut rounded off so had to drill it out.
Also started on the Ford Racing Puma again ready for the 15 year anniversary.
The racing puma is on a separate build thread for those that are interested.
I took the FRP out for a spin this afternoon and it dicks all over the Cup do not get me wrong the Cup is still sensational however the handling and breaking on the Puma are quite simply breath taking, the Cup would keep up I would suggest due to the power difference. If once when i have finished with the Cup it handles 70% as well as the Puma I will be happy.
In all honesty if the Clio does not quite cut it, I will look at getting a possible crash damaged FRP or one with a blown engine and look at putting a large engine in it. (Main issue is cost of second hand parts, if you can even find them)
However for now the Clio is cheap and with the plans I have for it I am excited and hopeful it will meet my needs when on track days.
Oh and yes the FRP really is that good.
