Clio Cup 172 is different!



Yes, this information is entirely right. The Clio 172 Cup can be entered in the Clio Cup Championship.









Itll just have problems keeping up with those sequential gear boxed stripped out Cup racers..... ;)
 


If these seals are anything like the seals used in our local super hatch series, then before the season starts, each car is RRd to make sure the engine is putting out the claimed power and meets requirements, then the engine is sealed. Once sealed no more work is allowed on the sealed portions of the engine. As any time the judges can ask to check the seals. If work must be carried out on the car and a seal is broken, the car must be RRd again and resealed.

I doubt there are any major differences to the engine of the Cup Racer when compared to the Cup road car other than the induction system, the exhaust system and then electronics.

The seal is just there to stop competitors from making illegal mods to the engine.
 


I think you will find the the ClioSport Cup/Ragnotti was built to homologate a few changes into the Group A/N Rally and Race cars.

It has nothing at all to do with the Clio Cup which are purpose built for their own one make series.
 


Sorry but there is a race car produced for the Clio Cup race series commonly known as Clio Cup Racers, and then there are Clio 172 cups, which have nothing at all to do with the race cars apart from the word Cup in silver on a barde on the door (If your dealer remembers to fit them)
 


A few of the UK race teams are offering the upgrades to owners of 172/Cups - suspension, brakes, exhaust, induction, interior etc
 


So the point is that there is a race series using race prepped Clios and that the Cup 172 is more similar to the 172 than the Race Cup and not so "different" after all?!

Yeah but Tom, it clearly says "This is the “super touring” Clio in the range !
Fine-tuned for racing purposes, it is based on the 2.0 Clio Renault Sport launched in December 1999 .............hmmm funny that....... the 172 Cup road car (homologation special) was produced to homologate these changes from the original 172 homologation and thus creating this "supertouring" one ! Just as renault said - surely you knew that?

There has been a previous version of the "cup" too and that was used for the same purpose, but there wasnt a homologation special of that car either. (Based on the Mk1 172)

Exactly what is your point? As there was cup racing before the cup (road car) came out i dont get what your saying?

Its soooooooo easy this isnt it? Think your all confusing the word cup and taking it out of context! Clio CUP racing is just the name of the race series - it just so happened that Renault decided to use this name for their homologation special the 172 CUP.........just like if they ever make a V6 special it might be caled the 255 Trophy V6 (after the race series the V6 participates in) So when you say their was a previous CUP Tom........? There wasnt. The clio cup racers were just, originally, race prepped Mk1 172s until they brought out the Mk2 and all the teams had to buy the replacement body panels to convert their Mk1s (rather than having to fork out for a brand new car - whats the point in that they only changed the panels after all). CUP is jsut a buzz word for the 172s which happen to race in a clio CUP series! Got it yet - you can call the 172 race car a clio CUP if you like but its just a race prepped 172 just like the clio TROPHY is a race prepped V6..........its quite simple - differentiate between a race prepped 172 which is not a cup and a 172 CUP road car (which is the only 172 to have ever bore the name CUP in its title) and the title of the series ELF RENAULT SPORT CLIO CUP. Like EDDD has stated teh 172 CUP has nothing to do the cup racers - most people automatically conclude they do because of the name - the Ragnotti (Famous french rally driver) and 172 CUP where produced to implement and homologate certain changes into the Grp A/Grp N spec rally/race cars - Grp N, Grp A and cliocup are not the same .
 


Why is it Cup owners try to make there cars more than they are ???

Why cant you guy just accept its a 172 with all the toys and luxuries taken out painted in a different colour.. for all purposes thats it..

This is where you reply telling me about your revised suspension that totally changes the handling of the car from a 172 into a gocart... lol

So are you trying to tell us that only race prepped 172 can enter the race series (which most people could have probably taken a wild guess at) or that you think the Cup road car can be entered in the race series, but not the normal MK1 or MK2 172s?!?!?!

Maybe clarifying the point of the original post help myself and others understand what you meant with the original post because I am now as confused as hell.

Are you trying to tell us that race cars are different from road cars, or that the Cup road car is "different" from other 172 variations because you think it can be entered in the race series? :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

EH!?

What are you dribbling on about. In your first post you say this........which leads everybody to think you are talkin about the Rd version cup being the only chassis base you can use in the clio cup series.

In your last post you stated totally different and already widely accepted and known information. So, you have backtracked and changed what initially (seemed) like a totally wrong statement.

To clear it up, clio cup race cars are based on a shell, just like the 172 uss the same shell as a cup rd car and a 1.2 uses the same shell.

The Clio cup race car is far more removed from the 172 whether MK1 or MK2, since they are the same flipping car, than the 172 CUP rd car is from the MK1 or MK2 172.

I have no idea where you were intending to go or even went with this post, its highly illogical.

Cup race cars are just that, they are not based on anything but a shell and engine, panel mean nothing. They use laguna struts and brakes, different gearbox, ignition control, rear suspension setup, wishbones, blah blah blah.

Whats the point of all this again?
