Colour Coding

  (s)Low Dynamique
Planning to colour code the side plastic trims on my 1.2 2004 Mk2 Ph2 Dynamique. What do I need equipment wise and what measures should I take (IE the number of coats, how long to leave it to dry etc)

My paint work is pearl black (676).

Only asking for help because I don't want to risk messing it up!

Thanks in advance!

And does anybody think it is worth colour coding up the plastic on the front/rear bumpers or not?

  a black one
get some of this

Make sure you sand properly and clean with white spirit before you paint otherwise when you paint it your going to be left with little bits and it will look like S**T, i gave my badges 2-3 coats of primer followed my 2 coats of w.e colour paint you want, leave the primer to properly dry for a few hours then spray your first couple of coats, leave until the next day and apply a final coat. All left to do then is Lacquer it. DO NOT RUSH IT and make sure you leave it to dry properly.

Ok, so I've made myself a little notepad document thing so I know what I'm doing when I come to do it.... Would you say this is about right:

Sand paper

Paint work is pearl black (676) x2
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_185875_langId_-1_categoryId_165505

White spirit
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_169760_langId_-1_categoryId_165495

Grey plastic primer:

Lacquer:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_203865_langId_-1_categoryId_165495

  • Sand down all strips
  • Clean THOROUGHLY with white spirit
  • 2-3 coats of grey primer
  • Leave to dry for 2-3 hours
  • 2 coats of 676
  • Leave to dry for 24 hours
  • Apply 1 last 676 coat
  • Leave to dry for 24 hours
  • Lacquer everything

Make sure when you sand the texture has competly gone or you'll end up with a matte finish like I first done. Takes a few hours to rub down properly.

Ok I have a good idea of what to do now, does the front/rear bumper look good with the plastic colour coded? Or does it look stupid and easier to buy a 1*2 bumper?
