CSS'14 peoples opinions and experience

  Westfield, 182, 200
What about having a swap meet next time?

Bring a few bits you have for sale, put them in the marquee? with a name and contact number??

A car meet is not a car meet in my opinion unless you can smell burnt tyres and brakes which adds to the ambience. Track action also generates interaction between members as evidenced at the Llandow day on Wednesday.

If there was track activity of some sort I'd be there.

I would have to agree with Mark. I'm not really into looking at parked 182s anymore; but a track day would be brilliant.

I'm sure it would attract alot of people.

I'd have gone if it were track oriented. It generates conversation and provides 'free' entertainment for those not driving.

Security would be tighter too so less chance of a pikey-fest.

So you don't care about the opinions of members that didn't attend?

Great way of finding out how you can change CSS so more members attend next year.

To encourage feedback I'd set up a SurveyMonkey that everyone can complete and maybe offer a prize draw as an incentive.

I've already said that that there's no problem with people responding to posts, but to have an opinion on CSS14 if you didn't go is slightly perplexing.

We have already acknowledged that there were issues with this years event. Issues that were out of our control I might add.

Trying to organise an event that caters for everyone is always going to be difficult. We will sit down today and use comments made in here to try and come up with something to suit everyone next year.

Unfortunately it's the old 'you can't please all of the people all of time' scenario but we will try our best.

If it was track orientated or had Interesting things to do such as Gaydon or Duxford (duxford was awesome btw) then I'd have been there. However Billing no thanks only live 30 miles from the place, never been but know its a s**t hole.

With all due respect mate, I think the views of why people didn't go are probably more helpful than from those who did if your trying to make it better/better attended in 2015!

Fair.

The only thread that's been deleted by me was one that went off topic talking about OrigineRS.

As I've already said there's a thread for that.

We will look at all feedback today and try and address any negatives.

;)

Not really, members want to say why they didn't attend this year so improvements can be made for next year.

You've discouraged me from saying why I didn't attend by deleting posts and I'm sure there are many more who won't give feedback as well now.

For me personally, I still had a good time. It was nice to catch up with folks and meet some new people too.
The raffle was a great idea, as was the hog roast. Unfortunately in that situation, you'll never please everyone but I thought a vegetarian option was available too?

I suspect those admin who were in the tent most of the day were there because they were manning the shop. It was certainly busy when I went in there anyway.

Like has been echoed before this post, the pikies milling around did put a slight damper on the day. I was still in shock about the kids having a full on fist-fight just yards away!

Looking forward to 2015's though - for me it's more about the people than looking at cars anyway.

The campsite must be aware of a possible traveller problem, hence the saying if you play with fire you will get burnt, so i would expect cs to request a refund of some sort. As for the posting about the other rs meet on this site, lol, then slating a cs event you must be lucky not to be banned and the thread removed. Well done Dave, Brian and all admin etc we had a good day Well done Scotts 172 and Nicks BMW 114i.

This years show was deliberately aimed at the camping and social side of things for a change to some extent to bring into the event what has been a popular part of the 'after party' of previous shows.

We knew that wouldn't appeal to all, but then neither does a trackday, however I expect next years show will appeal more to a different and wider audience.

Totally agree, I didn't go this year as I didn't want to sit in a field with no other attractions to look at. That was the plus points of Gaydon and Duxford. There is a limited time that you can endure looking at a field of Clios. Sure you can talk to people but some of us are quite shy. Agree with the need to have some track action as this demonstrates our cars true potential. Plus also gives people something interesting to look at and talk about.

I think this is a good idea , I was thinking the same thing. The lack of any 'bits', new or 2nd hand was a disappointment. A tent selling stickers and cans of coke and one bloke who had a few things on his parcel shelf is all I saw. One small pork roll as the food (and you couldnt even buy a 2nd one) was also a little weak.

The promised zip line didnt materialise, and the last time I was at Billing was in the 1970's when I was a kid and it doesnt look like its changed much.
A load of Clios/renaults in a field is a meet not really a show.

Personally wouldnt go again, like others would rather just go along to a Cliosport based track day ( such as Bedford was in Feb ), and socialise etc there.

Whatever mate. Ive already explained why I deleted Chips comments. I'm not going to keep repeating myself.

I think we have had some really constructive criticism on here and we will take it all on board at today's meeting.

Yep +1 with above, previously we've had a lot of traders and that was useful - also a dent removal guy - that would have been a good idea again imo.

Stokie mentioned there might be a dent guy there, I was gonna get all the little dings pulled out the 182 haha

Why are people moaning about admins staying in a hotel? Do people go to festivals and moan about the organisers not living in mud and piss for 3 days?

I find it a bit strange that posts get deleted which then discourages others to comment on a feedback and opinions thread. You won't please everyone agreed but surely a club event any members feedback would be took on board good or bad. I personally didn't/wouldn't attend due to it being a fair distance from me but that's not the club's fault.

Because we're a club. We're supposed to all enjoy the same things; cars and banter.

"Welcome to CSS, we're a really friendly club, we all came here for clios but we all love cars. We've organised an excellent campsite for CSS14, in fact it's so good we won't be staying there. Bye."

Give over FFS. We all know how chip can be when he starts so there's no suprise it was deleted to stop everyone else going on about origine RS.

they want CSS feedback, give it to them.

Adminz, I may attend next year, be more interested in a track orientated one though, I enjoyed llandow

We were at the campsite until fairly late having a drink with everyone.

Our accommodation was a stones throw from the camping literally.

Unfortunately due to having been up at 6:30 am and then not sitting down for pretty much the whole day we were all pretty tired.

I missed Dave Dreads puking last night but was treated to a matinee performance just now :)

Just to add to my earlier comment.
The signage directions really weren't up to the required standards I'm afraid. As I was leading a convoy in, the little black signs in the ground were extremely easy to miss, leading our convoy to drive straight through the event field.

Of the 5 signs 3 were stolen lol

What we needed was a few more people to assist with directing cars to our field.

To be honest aside from other more important reasons for me not going, I had a general feeling that this one wasn't going to end well. The site seemed very uncooperative, with the mandatory 2 night thing, then cancelling the offer at the last minute, etc etc. Furthermore, people who had been to Billing were a bit apprehensive, because obviously they were aware that it wasn't the best venue. Obviously I can't comment on the actual show, as I wasn't there, but I'd assume it's the usual CSS norm - great social atmosphere, slightly pants food and a fcuk ton of clios.

I don't think CSS should be a full-blown trackday, but the ability to do something with the cars would be appreciated. As I've suggested before, a small autotest track would suit the handling of the clios, be relatively safe and fun. Which is why several shows have an autotest on site.

All in all, I don't think too much of the blame can be apportioned to CS's admin, they work damn hard to get these together and were let down by an awkward venue and unsavoury locals.

This was my experience:

Got there just as everyone was leaving thanks to NIGHTMARE traffic. I should have been there for 12.30ish, instead I arrived at 3 :(

Time to get there: 5 hours
Time spent there: 1.5 hours
Cost: petrol £40, ticket £7, camping £30, food/booze/BBQ and stuff £50, car clean £10
Time to get home: 2 hours

The place was horrible, I had such warning bells about staying there. It's a real shame as I was looking forward to it so much and all the planning/packing/driving took ages.

I would not have felt at all comfortable staying there with all the pikeys 200 yards away.

I doubt I will ever go to CSS again, but it was lovely to see the few people I did get to speak to.

It seems quite a few of the people who said they were camping didn't.

I was pissed off as it cost me a lot of money and wasted my time.

I think it was a mistake to have it on a bank holiday weekend when there are lots of other big events going on round the country. I got stuck in traffic around CarFest in Hampshire and there was something on at Silverstone as well. I just sat in traffic all the way there, and I doubt it would have made any difference if I'd left any earlier.

Having read the Trip Advisor reviews on Billing, I'm surprised it was chosen as a location in the first place.

Wasn't a patch on the one I went to two years ago, and that time the camping was epic.

Spoken by someone that's never done a trackday in their life lol. If it was a track scenario, I'd probably attend tbh. We do Knockhill all the time and there's always plenty of interaction.

You probably have a fair point. I actually enjoy watching track days and CSS would be great for banter afterwards.

But... wouldn't you spend all day on track without conversing?

OK, i dont want to sound like a boring sod who doesnt appreciate how much effort has gone into organising such an event however I left at 1pm due to a few reasons.

Starting from the very beginning.

I bought 3 friends along.

- It took an hour and a half and 180 mile round trip to get there and back - which i know isnt as far as others but still.

- Had children running and riding bikes in front of my car whilst travelling at 3mph through the site as they were unattended by adults.

- No directions at all, had to follow others and got lost and just happened to find where it was.

- Had a walk around - wasn't as many cars as last time but still a good turn out and spoke to a few people which was nice.

- Staff were friendly, member discounts on drinks was a nice touch.

- Had our pork bap which sorry to say was mostly gibbly fat.

- the williams car, v6 and trophys were set out nicely.

- But most of all after paying £7 for my ticket, fellow campers were allowed to just wonder into the show

- Not only this but the kids with bikes just took the piss to be honest

- The F1 simulator was uncomfortable with a broken seat, the game kept glitching out and was met with an arsey guy who was awkwardly and abruptly telling people to leave things alone. IT'S A SIMULATOR WITH A G25 STEERING WHEEL, PEOPLE ARE OBVIOUSLY GOING TO TOUCH THE GEAR STICK.

- I had another walk around, didnt even stay to witness the so called fight (Really?), but was still annoyed with the location smack bag in the middle of a campsite.

- I have attended the show for the past few years now and have never been disappointed, (duxford being the best but loved the heritage museum the year before.)

I totally understand that an event such as this, would take so much time and effort, but really i wasnt very happy with it and left at 1pm when people were still coming in.

Sorry once again but I travelled longer than I stayed

Plenty of time for chatting etc. And the added bonus of being able to offer other members, passenger laps. ;)
