It's still there ever so slightly. Sorry for moaning, nothing interesting to report. My spoiler is still being sprayed.

I think it is an earth issue now as I noticed last night that when I press the brakes the foglight icon illuminates ever so slightly. I never noticed this before! I've had the lights out before and cleaned them up but that was at the start of September. Is there a permanent fix?

Get a stiff paint brush and some contact cleaner on the light connectors, don't use a wire brush unless u disconnect the battery, I give the contacts a bit of a tweak usually to make them tighter.

Today I sorted out a few niggles. Started out by removing the cat to fit the new fitting kit thanks to @optical here is a pic showing the before and after of the new gasket.

I then changed the side repeater bulbs to silver ones that flash orange. Really hard to get a decent pic after pic so he's a singular before lol

I then removed the nearside wheel to have a look at the gearbox earth strap to see if anything was up and I did notice that it's been rubbing on the chassis, it's gone through the paint and been rubbing quite badly as seen.

I was starting to think this was my earth issue, I got the multimeter out and i got resistance when pressing the earth strap against the car where it has rubbed away so was thinking that was the problem but after talking to Incy we're thinking that wont be the rpboem as it's all earthed anyway :S I've insulated it and about to go for a drive anyway!

Usually the earth cable behind the inner boot panel for the lights that. Not the casings themselves.

+1 haha.

Got bumper sorted yet or is that on the back burner?

It's being done this weekend mate! I'm dropping my car off on Saturday and should be done by Monday.

It coincides with my plans for the weekend as I'm away in Manchester for a uni mates birthday. No car though obviously so the woman is driving which means I can get absolutely mortal Saturday night and she can drive me back home Sunday and I don't have to worry about driving the next day. She's a good n!

Fingers crossed I should be picking up an exhaust Friday too! So I should be coming back with some goodies.

Ordered a load of parts to get the cruise control working too using separate buttons for an aftermarket steering wheel.

Would anyone fancy a guide now I've got my digital camera back from warranty repair?

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!!

Exhaust, spoiler and washer blank time :D

I'm setting off from work at 5pm for the merry trip down to Chesterfield(exhaust) then Notts (spoiler) with my mate. Then when i'm back home in Leeds which will no doubt be a stupid time i'm removing my bumper in the freezing cold :fearscream: lovely!

Thank you for the comment :) I've bought a powerflow one on here. I've gone into it blind pretty much as gave an offer to a member on here for it, was in the for sale section recently!

I'm so tired writing this right now - went straight from work with my mate who I know from college who is doing his PhD in the same building as me at work. Had such a laugh driving down, it really made the journey awesome.

We initially went from Leeds to Chesterfield to pick up the exhaust, then from there to Nottingham to pick up the spoiler and i'm so impressed with the work! Definitely worth the wait.

We then came home, dropped my mate off and started removing the bumper so it's been quite a long day. Here are some shitty snapchat pics (if anyone wants to add me my username is the same as on here dann2707)

I have a day off monday so should be fitting everything then

Thank you everyone, you're all so lovely haha.

I had to take my bumper off though as the guy was picking it up for spraying at 7.30 this morning :hushed: Luckily it was only 0c, I thought it would have been colder!

I'm going to fit the spoiler before I head off to Manc today :D

It's all on! Massively not happy with the fitting of it due to the threads in the spoiler. They just seem so weak and although it's on fairly sturdy, tightening them was sketchy as I didn't overtighten them as to not pull the helicoils out. For those who have this spoiler you'll know what I mean.

More pics of the car without the rear bumper on, it looks ridiculous haha car looks like it's got mad camber too even though all it has is rear spacers on.

With all the hassle you have had im pretty happy Ijust went with the cup spoiler in the end! That said you would think it would be lighter! The cup spoiler must weigh twice as much as the standard one!

Looks really well lined up, Im going to be drilling into the car too, seems the best way, im nervous now you have mentioned about being cautious about over tightening it. Noticed you have filled the hole in the spoiler where the windscreen washer goes which looks much better. Can you give any tips on this as its a deep hole. I bought some bodywork filler but wondering if I need to fill it with something like hard as nails first and let that dry then the last 3-5mm with body filler - just worried about shrinkage and that sort of thing if i use body filler on a deep hole.

Ive been toying with either doing that or just drilling a hole in the original trophy spoiler location and just sticking the washer there but not connecting it up. I never use the rear windscreen washer so not going to miss it.

I think it looks fantastic and youve done a good job on that.

Thanks for the comments peeps!

@optical that hole hasn't been filled in matey! I've just left it as it is and luckily you can't see it when it's on which is pretty good!! :D

I've just bent the hose over a few times and cable tied it so it's blocked. A bit like a car vasectomy maybe? Lol

Anyway I'm posting this from a beautiful Manchester premier Inn, the window view is absolutely amazing! Hahahaha

Anyway I'll be fitting the exhaust tomorrow if not too hungover or Monday.

Hope you all have a great weekend x

good going so far dan!

how big are the spacers you're using?

Cheers BIKE FWEND

25mm up front and 10mm rear :)

Spoiler looks brilliant mate really sets it off imo, any other advice when fitting by the way?

Thanks mate, should have some better decent pics next week when the bumper is on. In terms of fitting, i'd say that's it really just be careful you don't over tighten the bolts, line it up first to see where you need to drill some holes in your tailgate if you need to.

Today was fairly productive despite going out last night, i'm hungover to f**k so thought car stuff might sort me out but it hasn't I just want to curl up and fall asleep lol - got home at 1pm today so cracked on with the exhaust. Really easy to fit however the olive joint where it attaches to the cat is blowing slightly.

I will no doubt go down the welding a sleeve on it in the near future - just need to research it all first :)

I jacked the car up and tried wiggling the original exhaust out but it's fairly tight in there so I dropped the rear beam which was easy enough.

I then retired into the comfort of my bedroom to start on creating a wiring loom for the cruise control buttons, as I now have an after market steering wheel the buttons on the original wheel can't go neatly anywhere so my plan is, and totally copying @George182 's wheel i'm going to do the same! But to detract my blatant stealing of ideas i'm going to write up a guide for how the loom is created as hopefully it should help others in the situation I was in.

This is what i'll be doing:

c0c6b97c4803abd2f95beab7a1820ddb.jpg

Apologies if the pics are rubbish.

First things first - A little list of what you need:

A soldering iron.

16233971699_b0541e7b3e_b.jpg
20150201_154231 by dann2707, on Flickr

Some flux to clean up the connections (not really required), solder and some very worn crimping tools. You also need (not pictured) some slide terminals male and female (8 male 8 female)

Your original loom from the cruise control buttons to the yellow connector.

3 resistors. I have loads here as you had to buy so many at a time.

You need the values of:

910 ohms
100 ohms
274 ohms

These were all bought on eBay for a total of around £4

16418459861_5523517ae1_b.jpg

Some "push to make" buttons. I got these dimpled ones as they look much better imo. eBay again - £6. Buy f**king everything on eBay, we actually bought our conservatory on eBay hahaha not even joking.

15797772504_60f4204046_b.jpg
20150201_154533 by dann2707, on Flickr

Thanks to @1812lsd for the pic. Basically this is how everything is going to be wired. The lines that are to the right of the resistors are the buttons.

IMAG0245.gif

First you want to cut off the original buttons leaving you the bare wires, you will then bare back the copper wires.

15797763504_e9e99a4b04_b.jpg
20150201_154511 by dann2707, on Flickr

Now cut off some wire - don't do too much or too little. You will want 8 pieces here not 4 as shown. That was just to show what size im cutting.

16234053849_a73e7377f3_b.jpg
20150201_154955 by dann2707, on Flickr

You have 8 wires, 2 for each button as shown here. Solder them onto the buttons now.

16232638878_c54a5e0872_b.jpg
20150201_155941 by dann2707, on Flickr

16234077159_b969921218_b.jpg
20150201_161703 by dann2707, on Flickr

Now as per the original sketch further up, you need to solver a resistor to one leg of the buttons. One button doesn't actually require a resistor on it so just leave that. I then soldered 3 really small bits of wire after the resistor legs as shown further down. This is for the crimping connectors to grab onto something as it won't grab a thin resistor leg.

16232657378_03eb4bdfc4_b.jpg
20150201_162442 by dann2707, on Flickr

Now heatshrink the resistors as shown.

16232664738_891d377f28_b.jpg
20150201_163741 by dann2707, on Flickr

Now what you need to do is attach male or female connectors to every wire on this bit you've been working on. The reason behind this is so that they can be undone from the loom and fed through the holes i'm going to drill in the steering wheel. If they were permanently soldered you don't be able to do this.

16420326685_e1a2f29501_b.jpg
20150201_164343 by dann2707, on Flickr

16418575861_ff78873335_b.jpg
20150201_164348 by dann2707, on Flickr

Now cut off more wire, around this size. You need 8 pieces

16234437827_725c7814d2_b.jpg
20150201_164511 by dann2707, on Flickr

Now grab your original loom and get the 2 grey wires, bare them back, and solder the 4 pieces you just cut off to them. 2 pieces of yellow wire in my case to 1 grey strand so overall you have 4 pieces - in this step you are essentially turning 2 wires into 4 :)

16232702618_af4be24f07_b.jpg
20150201_165431 by dann2707, on Flickr

Now do the same with the green wire!! Extending it from 2 wires to 4 wires :) And crimp your other slide connectors to these wires!

16418608671_60a04daaf9_b.jpg
20150201_170942 by dann2707, on Flickr

All done! now you simply need to hook up everything.

For each button - One grey wire goes to one button leg, one green wire goes to the other button leg.

Hope this helps anyone reading and I apologise if something I have done isn't orthadox in terms of soldering etc - I haven't properly soldered since year 11 at school which was 8-9 years ago!

There might be too much wire too but that can easily be sorted out when I go to fit it tomorrow. i'll update with more pics tomorrow when it's on the car.

One thing, I'm not actually sure which resistor does what in terms of cruise control so i'm going to have them loose and press them when on a run to distinguish which button does what.

I hope it works... lol

Thanks Andy :D

Those halfords kits are great for the money. Lifetime guarantee and there's always a halfords nearbyIf they break

Bet the new exhaust is lighter than the original one!

Tell me about it, the only problems i'm having it is remembering where the pieces are when they're all in as there are so many and so many variants, it's awesome! haha

Looks awesome mate, love the spoiler. Might have to put that on my list!!

Cheers buddy! I would recommend them for the price definitely. Just remember the spraying problems me and my sprayer had when you get yours done so let the bodyshop know :D

Excellent guide that Dan, where are you going to mount them?

Cheers Nick, should definitely help you soon ;)

I'm going to be fitting them to the wheel by drilling 4 holes around the horn like what george has done above. That's today's job! Hopefully I can get them equally spaced by measuring 18 times before drilling haha

Should be getting my bumper back today too :) fingers crossed if it's gone to plan.

More progress. I haven't stopped today it's been madness!

I started by doing the steering wheel controls :)

Here is the wheel, unmolested for the time being

20150202_111717 by dann2707, on Flickr

I then got some duct tape and went over the whel where i'm thinking of having the buttons. I put it nice and parallel with the stitching as you can see. Doing this means you can write on it, mark where you want to drill without doing it on the wheel itself. Seems so simple but it really works :)

16243019557_93287166e8_b.jpg
20150202_112337 by dann2707, on Flickr

I then equally spaced two holes and drilled them lightly to make a mark

The buttons are now in. I really think i've fucked it up by having too large of a diameter button as i've taken a lot out of the wheel (not shown in the pics) but I think it might weaken it over time.

In hindsight I would have drilled the holes further to the centre of the wheel for strength so i've learnt from my mistake so hopefully you guys don't have to.

Whilst the car was jacked up I started to remove the old ABS ring, so had to remove both ball joints, hub nut, hub knuckle bolts!
