Detailing Chat & Questions Thread

  A special one.
Jesus Apollo is expensive!

I've been using Halfords all season one on mine regularly, only after the car has had a good clean, never dirty - and never had any issues. Don't intend on using one for the colder months, car is going inside.
Ive had both the Cover-zone and the Halford's car covers, the Cover-zone is far the best but of course it comes at a greater price.

Ill be buying a cover soon for the Spec C.

Yeah, I was looking at specialist covers but couldn't justify the price at the time. Next year I'll go to town. No point now as the cars going away till next year in a couple weeks!

Best product to protect/wax/seal silver alloy wheels after washing?? One set newly powder coated and one set painted. What would help to keep alloys more pristine and best protected between washers?

Washed the car about four weeks ago, then used some black hole on it with a polisher (seen some good results elsewhere and I've only used it by hand before) but I'd ran out of Cr Pro reload which I'd previously used (didn't like it anyway) and I'd picked up some Triplewax Fast wax in Asda for three quid. I used it on top of the black hole with limited and realistic expectations given the price and it being Triplewax but it looks to have held up ok. I know it's hardly going to be favourite with detailers but have others got experience of it? I was going to replace it with another spray wax and use it only as a stop gap, but if it's really bad and not worth the effort then I'll not bother.

So really looking for suggestions of good, not too expensive spray/fast waxes as I generally don't get the time to really go to town on the car anymore and with winter coming up don't want to put something completely pointless on.

Or is this Poorboys polish with carnauba ok to use as a one step polish/sealant? Black hole I have it nearly running out so I'll have to replace soon anyway.

The Poorboy's product is okay, not brilliant.
I'd suggest applying a durable wax that will see the winter through.

If you do want to just use a spray wax Auto Finesse Glisten is a nice, easy to use product. Durability is only a few weeks but you can easily use it after each wash.

@Perry
Meguiars ultimate quik wax
Sonax extreme brilliant shine detailer
Zaino z18
Chemical guys hybrid v7
Powermaxed winter coat

Then there are the likes of carpro reload or gtechniq C2 but these can sometimes require a bit more attention when applying.

Guessing you've got a pressure washer? If so take a look at gyeon wetcoat or carpro Hydr02 or Hydr02 lite. Wash and rinse the car as normal, spray these products over a wet car and pressure rinse off immediately and fully. Instant protection.

I did use Carpro Reload previously and my results weren't great with it. Guessing it's down to time taken/technique. Yeah I've got pressure washer I'll have a look at those products, sound good as In do wash the car regularly, just don't have the time to spend many full/half days going to town on it anymore.

Billy big b****cks here did it. So I guess you can too. I watched hours of yourtube videos and then took the plunge. Mask off areas , work in small patches and stay away from sharp edges where two faces meet and you will be fine.

Where can I pick up some 50 Cal Cover Up??

Really need to give my car a full decontamination and then fancy just giving it a going over with the above before sealing it for the winter.

Anyone is Sussex (Worthing) or Surrey (Guildford) who would be able to restore my headlights? Will obviously pay!

I'm in Byfleet/West Byfleet area near brooklands. Ive not done headlights for years. I am sure Ive some Megs unigrit somewhere and have a Flex DA with various pads and polishes. A resto kit will do the job Im sure if you want to do it yourself.

Those make a good difference? I only ask as I buy the yellow round sponges from China for like 7.58p for 12, they seem pretty good.

Can I do anything to my windscreen to make it clearer?I'm guessing it's plenty years old and when the sun is in front my windscreen looks like it has metalflake in it! Can it be polished at all to smooth it?
