Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Yours is gearbox driven, I don't think I have a spare sensor as I broke the last one but I may do! I'll find out Saturday or tomorrow night as ill start digging my spares out.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

If it definitely is ill grab one tomorrow when im passing through Bury and just fix it.

Was just driving, hit a bump and lost the speedo then a few minutes later it came back but kept dropping so i reckon its a safe bet just to replace it tbh.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

From me or Renault?

I think they're quite cheap new from Renault as they're a universal part for a lot of Renault gearboxes!

Yea it's a bit of a pig to get out but doable. Give Renault your reg and they'll soon tell you but I've got gearbox drive and its an 02. Basically if it doesn't have traction control its gearbox driven.

On that note then, can the gearbox driven cars have the abs removed and the speedo will still work just like a Cup?

Where abouts is it on the box? presuming it downs the back somewhere?

Yea at the back, has a black plug that just pulls off. You need to get a thin screwdriver in each side and pull. It's a bit fiddle.

In theory yes, but you'll need all the cup master cylinder etc.... I believe it's a bit of a mission to do it.

I've got the Cup Racer stuff so fingers crossed it won't be too challenging.

On a spamming note; My cage fitter dropped my car off today after fitting your old OMP cage. He said it was a nightmare to fit at the back!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

The black one. He said the feet sit right over the chassis legs so access was a challenge. Looks a treat now though. Had door X's made up, the harness bar refitted and a dash bar fitted.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Speed sensor is about £25 brand new. I'll order one now if you're going to come over next week. 5 minutes to fit it max, just pull and it comes out.

you may need it adjusted in CLIP. Some seem to use ABS as primary speed input, and some use the speed sensor (even when both are fitted it's not always consistent)

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Replacement badge from nick172cup, shouldve of resprayed it but i cant be bothered ha.

White line is now on the softer setting also, need to raise the rear 5mm also due to slight scrubbing.

Then hopefully on tuesday ill be heading to 519 for a geo setup, new speedo sensor and hopefully he will stick it on his rollers for some figures. Dan if you read this i have been trying to get hold of you but failed, so it tuesday ok? ha.

Then its off to the ring thursday :D

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Took the car to 519 yesterday 'on the way' to london.

Jobs were;
geo setup
new speed sensor
dyno run to check everything is healthy.

Dan cracked on and get the geo which was all over the place with nearly a degree different camber one side to the other. Car now drives superbly and in a straight line which is always good!

Then he did the speedo sensor in a matter of seconds.

Then onto the dyno. This is where we hit a problem, the car was only making 180bhp. Dan was reading all sorts of figures and stuff that i dont understand, he then mentioned the map needed some adjusting. So I left Dans for london and returned this morning, straight onto the rollers and he set about sorting it.
Few hours later it was back to full health and Dan had a big smile on his face as the car was putting out some very good figures.

Anyway a few random pics,

My car on the left, Rhys Beal's epic ph1 on the right.

Whilst Dan was working on the car I added some stickers ready for the ring, 6am ferry tomorrow :D

Massive thanks to Dan @ 519 for taking half your day to sort the car for me for 3 chocolate chip muffins!

Next update will hopefully be some pics from the ring and a report of a hassle free trip, fingers crossed!!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

pretty similar peak figures to mine, you have better mid-range and seems to hold the torque better towards the very end, good to see it's back to full health

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

mine is abit of a freak tho to be fair, know how well mine goes so yours should go like stink with the extra mid-range and with how it holds on at the top end

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Took the car to the Nurburgring over the past weekend. Car drove almost faultlessly the whole way there and back, no loss of fluids which is a good sign.
EML came on the way there and again on the way back, code p0420 for the lambda sensor so ive reset it again as its returning decent MPG (39mpg on the motorways) so ill just ignore it for now.

RSR's were pants to start off, after several hacks around the back roads they got much better with some decent use to wear them in.
Softened the rear of the car off also upon advice from DannyR and that improved the handling much better, though i still cant drive this car as well/as much confidence as the ph1 which is something i need to work on.

Got a random rattle on full left lock at very slow speeds, but its not constant so I will try figure out what that is. Pretty sure its part of the exhaust thats loose somewhere but no major worry atm.

Anyway, track pics.

Brackets on the PAS fluid bottle broke, so i fixed that ;)

Also lost some weight of the CD changer ha,

I also got the brakes slightly hot on the way down one of the road, the emergency stop before pulling into a car park didnt help! I was checking It hadnt suffered any brake fade, which it hadnt. Even when like this they still worked perfectly well! :)

Quick random video i made whilst at the ring.

All in all a top trip minus some bad weather, car held up well and hopefully ill make it back next year.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like you had some decent weather whilst out on the track.

Loving the smoke. M1155s FTW (it's probably the paint on them burning off)

I remember my mates Yellowstuff smoking like mad after 10 laps at Anglesey, they were nearly new. Then they were fine after that
