Exhaust Manifold removal (cracked)

  Clio 16 3dr 8v
Replacement of cracked manifold.

Does anyone know if there is a quick way to remove the hidden stud on a 1.6 8-valve?

Viewed from the front of the vehicle the far left hand exhaust manifold stud is hidden behind a large aluminium casting that supports the alternator, power stearing pump and air con compressor. There is no clearence to get a socket, a spanner or nut driver into the space between the casting and the exhaust manifold outlet, without a major strip down.

This my daughters car; So far, under supervision, she has managed to remove all the parts including the stubborn rusted nuts and the alternator, she has don really well. Its important to me she learns to maintain the vehicle not just drive it. But shes a bit stumped now, and using Mums car for work! We have the new parts ready to fit. I am currently considdering a 25mm hole cutter straight through the casting to gain access......:mad:Rather than the 3-4 hour strip down and then rebuld.

I cant believe that somthing as simple as removing the exhaust manifold has been made so difficult, when a small hole in the castng would allow access....... Otherwise its been a good little car for her.
