Free insurance query 2 - *Mods*

What modifications have people told the renault free insurance about and what action have they taken i.e. refused to insure, bumped up excess etc etc. Im planning to get wheels (17s or 18s) lower 60mm and tint the windows. ive already colour coded but im not telling them about that! Will also be getting an alarm, hopefully with the anti-tilt sensors to help protect the wheels and 4 locking wheel nuts for each wheel!!!

when i claimed on the free insurance...they said only mods that actually change the car...ie lowering or wheels need ot be claimed

things like new rear lights, side repeaters, bulbs and colour coding are ok

as for declaring lowering..increased excess by 100 and cost me 20quid in admin fees.

Renault Insurance seem to be ok with external mods ie change the wheels bodykit spoilers but only some people there will agree to put lowered suspension on the insurance so it just depends on who you speak to on that subject.

For any external mods they increase the excess and sometimes ask for a modification premium you can either pay up (about £20) or keep arguing and try and get it free.

Best to tell them about everything insurance companies may try and get out of any claim saying your mods invalidated the policy. Yes I know you may be able to pull them of the car when you crash but thats assuming you are able to and you werent injoured in the accident.

this is gonna piss me off, obviously i dont wanna get wheels without lowering as 17s and no drop looks like a rollerskate! i wonder what they would say about a full suspension kit?

Try them if you get a generous person answering the phone maybe they will add it to the policy.
If not ring up again and again till you do.

When I called em, the guy I spoke to didnt have a clue, the guy who specialised in Mods was on his dinner, so i had to wait till they called me back.....

I was declaring my Lexus lights, they just put it in my notes and nothing else, I also asked about window tints...they said it was ok as long as they are legal, i think they said they would add £50 to my excess or summat.. as to Alloy wheels they said i could but my excess would go up £200!!. I think it depended on how much u value the modification to how much excess to put on, I asked about Lowering they said NO!.
