Gutted! - Trade in prices

  Octavia VRS
Went on a garage website to look at what price they'd give me for my car if I traded it in - £1650 for 'exceptional' condition FFS!

2000 V plate 1.4 Alize, good spec inc AC, sunroof, alloys, fogs, ABS etc, only done 63k and in good condition. Just shows you how low the stealers offer

i got offered £2400 the otha day for my 1.2 16v extreme 41k. they jus completely rip ya off at garages.52 reg

so right mate a f**king disgrace! Would want 2k absolute minimum when I come to sell. Obvious it will have to be private or it will have to be a great deal on a 172/182 at a garage if i trade it in. What reg is your 1.2?

they told me that my car has been "boy racer'd up". that they wudnt sell it at the garage and that it wud go to auction and that £2400 is wat they wud def get for it. i though u cheeky f**k. u can shove that up ur ar*e. I know they are there to make money but they are jus completely ripping ya off anyway!

You mean a corporate chain want to make money from your car in a trade:eek: Whatever next!

lol I can understand that but they'd probably be able to sell it for at least 3k, piss take offer imo

They offered me a 1k less than I eventually sold mine for. I heard his offer and laughed in his face and said "riiiiiiight". And he still kept asking me if I wanted to give it to them, let's see... how about no. Don't main dealers often offload them so smaller independant dealers anyway, I think the auction statement is mostly bullshit. But I could be wrong (probably am).

tbf adam id say that was a good amaount considering its history :)

They maybe able to sell your car for £2.8k then take away the fact they'll have to service it (say £150) clean it (£20) and Mot it (£50 say assuming nothing wrong) then they have to risk of keeping it oo the books for a few month (say worth £100) plus have to lose or buy 12 month new road fund (£150 or so). That only gives then £800 profit for the risk they'd have to make £200 profit to ensure they stay in business and say £300 to pay for the garage. So the supposed huge profit (excluding there 10% extra they need is just £300 that not much money realy when you think they have to offer a 12 month warently which will cost them assuming they buy it about £200.

Well said, I can't fathom how a seller thinks he will get a quote from a dealer for a trade in or straight sale that will be anywhere close to a private sale price. The difference is absorbed by overhead and a reasonable margin. Who really fancies running a forecourt full of 40 vehicles at say 5k a pop (200k tied up in metal and rubber) and trying to earn 500-700 quid on each after expenses? No ta.

agree... you makes you choices.

Px is all about convenience at the end of the day.

If you want best value, buy at auction, sell privately.

My 1,2,3 for selling - 100% success

just got 3500 for my wifes car PRIVATE

was offered 2600 trade-in

Valet it spotless and

1) e-mail to everyone you know, ....................it just worked for me!

2) Autotrader

3) E-Bay - multi photos (supersize) with minute detail on description, colour band and subtitle (a few £ extra) and use you 'lowest' i.e 1650 as a starting bid to avoid paying fee for a reserve.

  ST on the way...
When I went for a test drive of a MK3 a few weeks ago the salesman asked me if I wanted a rough trade in price for mine, I thought why not! (even tho i'm not even considering getting rid).

£3k!! (2003 1.6 16v...mint!)

Went and thrashed the b****cks of the demo car with the salesman in, laughed at the price and told him no thankyou :D
