Harnesses

  500 Twinair
Am after a set of harnesses, for road use and a little trackday use. I understand that the harnesses are not road legal?
Also what are the difference between FIA and non FIA harnesses?
I also want to keep the seatbelts, but looking at where to fit the harnesses that run at the side of the seats, doesnt look alot of space around that area on the floor to drill etc

Any advice would be welcome.
Thankyou

Ive just fitted harnesses last week, so may be able to help a bit.

Harnesses CAN be road legal, they have to have a certain stamp on them, but cant remember what it is :( I think if they are FIA approved, then they are not road legal.

You should be able to run belts and harnesses, quite a few on here do. Depends if belts will work well with your seats.

Diff between FIA and non-FIA is, non-FIA cant be used for proper racing, like competitions. But they will be fine for trackday/road use :)

Most harnesses are road legal.

FIA ones are ones that are able to be used in events, therefore have had to go through safety testing. None FIA could be anything.

Fia ones are dated for a period of time, this is for event use.

If im wrong correct me.

ECE approved harnesses are what you're after. Get a copy of the Demon Tweeks motorsport catalogue, there are plenty listed in there.

Demontweeks Sabelt 3 point for the win, cheap and easy to install and they look good. just finished fitting mine yesturday. got pulled by old bill last night and they didnt even check them.

Just FYI,

My car went in for the MOT today. The harnesses passed without any problems, the tester didnt even mention anything about them. They are the Sabelt 4 points, with the aero style buckle :)

Unfortunately the car failed on a knackered ball joint, so thats getting fixed, then jobs a goodun :)

simplest way is an E approved (most of them are) 4X3 Clubman harness with a normal buckle.

the eyebolts are a bit weird and all need to be 32mm in length if you want to retain the original seat belt fixings underneath them (usual thread length of eyebolts is 23mm)

never come across this before, but the outer front bolt is M10 (seatbelt fixings are almost always the universal 7/16 UNF - the other two are in the Renault) - you can buy M10 eyebolts, but i'm not sure if you can get them in anything other than 23mm thread length (be interested to know if anyone else has managed)

if you do without the seat belts, the bolts are all available here: http://www.southwestmotorsport.com/...age=product_info&cPath=10_312&products_id=791
