Headpones - Open/closed back

Ok, im looking at investing in some new headphones but im a little confused over the open and closed backs, the differences and the pros and cons of them.

Im liking the look and sound of the Sennheiser HD 555 (http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/icm_eng.nsf/root/05342) but with them being open backed im a little worried that everyone around me will be able to hear my music which will piss them off but the reviews for them have been alot better than their closest rival with a closed back, the Sennheiser HD 515 (http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/icm_eng.nsf/root/05341?Open&print=)

not sure on the difference between them, but i have 2 pairs of headphones, shure E2c's and some technics ones which look to me like those first ones.

the E2Cs are sound isolating and when you have them in its like having earplugs in! brilliant!
