Help needed with 172/Cup

Guys, Ive made a dreadful mistake.

Until February, I drove an Impreza Turbo. I loved it to death, but chopped it in cos of the high service cost, short service interval (every 7,5000, and I do about 18,000 miles per annum),insurance of £600, and its mpg of never better than about 25.

I bought a two year old 1.8 Accord Sport. Lovely car, that does most things reasonably, but a bit on the dull side. Im desperate to restore the fun to my driving, and think that a 172 or Cup could be the answer.

Any views on how they would compare to an Impreza Turbo? I know that they arent quite as quick and dont have the 4WD grip, but how about smiles per mile and running costs?

Thanks for your help.

Andrew.

for smile factor they are brilliant as far as most people are concerned - but this has got to be a very personal thing - drive one and see what you think personally would be my suggestion - I have never driven a Scooby, but i would imagine that a Cup/172 is verrrrry different !!!

buy 1, u wont regret it! after years of boring cars, i got hold of a 172 sport, and basically it will keep up with,if not pass, most cars on the road 2day! obviusly there r certain cars u wont b able to pass, but they will b a darn sight more than whoat u will pay for a 172sport/cup!

I owned a 2000MY Impreza Turbo. Fast car with excellent grip etc.

I now have the Cup 172. You cant really compare the two. I think the handling of the scooby was better because of the four wheel drive and the ability to get the rear breaking away under power in certain circumstances.

The Cup however does give the same grin factor but in a different way. Its not as quick but it feels faster in many ways because its so raw to drive, which I like.

Its far cheaper to run which in itself justifys the change. I got feed up of 20 to the gallon and expensive servicing.

It will be a change, but you wont be disappointed in the car pound for performance

youre insurance should be lower and you should get more mpg than the subaru (depending on how you drive it), dump the honda and get a 172/cup.... go on...

had my cup now for just over a week. Got to say its been the best purchase of my life (so far). Used to have new mini cooper and a celica, neither come close to the ammount of grip, speed or fun the cup provides. Sure the build quality might not be as good but for smiles per mile I think youd be hard pressed to find another car that comes close for the money.

I average arround 40mpg, which is quite unbelievable concidering and the accelleration fantastic (probably due the excellent power to weight ratio).

You definately need to go on a test drive though cuz the 172/CUP/182 all offer there own benefits and are very different cars. For me the CUP won on cost. Tried a 172 mk2 and a 182, but I felt I wouldnt really need the additional creature comforts they offered, so saved myself c.£3000
