How much faster is an Megane R26 than a 182

  Monaco Blue 172 (56/468)
Was thinking about potential new cars - need something with a bit more leg room in the back and something a bit faster but handles just as well as my 182 - Megane R26 seems ideal...but how much faster are they, is there much in it up and do they handle just as well as a 182? Also how much more legroom do u get in the back!?

When the time comes il just go for a testdrive and find out but any advice would be appriciated!!

funny this, i had a bout with a 57 plate 225 yesterday and there was nothing at all in it. dont wish to disclose any more details.

they pull away nicely, especially at motorway speeds, much more grunt than a 182, the meg dci is even faster 50-90 than the r26 too.

They are nice cars but not a whole lot quicker than a 182,but they do have a slight drink problem

Depends how heavy you are with the accelerator.

36+ MPG is easily achievable on long runs with cruise on.

But low 20s is hard to obtain if you're ragging it.

Meg probably not a whole lot quicker in a "drag" type race, but it's power is much more usable making it a much nicer car to live with daily, imo.

as stated, point to point in "normal driving conditions" they are very quick cars. Had a play with one and i dont know how hard he was trying but i was giving my civic plenty to keep with him :)

I would deffo consider the R26 as a desirable replacement for your 182. I have concisdered it myself, as the leg room is more substantial. As for the speed ive been in a couple and they are quickewr but its not by a great deal if you were after a faster car then maybe something else.

Against a 225 I found exactly the same speed until I got into 3rd, then he started moving away slowly but not significantly.

The Clio is undoubtedly faster A-B though.

I upgraded to an R26 took awhile to get used to as the car is a lot more planted,, takes a lot to get the chassis to play.

Much more torque all through the band, amazing grip levels, thig is so quite though you don't realise how quick it is.

Check out this 182 shoot out in my car and the exhasut note if you remove the back box:

Point to point on the twisties the R26 is significantly faster given the torque and grip levels

Off the line there wouldn't be much in it from my experience. Both cars are bloody quick. Heading up to silly speed the Megane be it a 225 or R26 would start to pull.

In gear acceleration would be different though. The ammount of torque from the 225/R26 means that in most gears, unless the Clio drive is in the power band, the Megane would pull on it.

3rd gear is the Meganes party piece really.
