i miss my 172



My little baby is away getting some 'upgrade' done, she was dropped off on wednesday and i won't get her back until monday week at the earliest, its gonna be a long wait! Got a Laguna as a replacement, but its just not the same.

Just thought I'd share that with you.

Do you prefer it to your 182 then mate?

oh yes, the Cup was ace but with the paintwork and stripes it just shouted 'nick me.' Plus my former lady friend hated driving it due to the attention it got. The 172 is far more subtle plus it has 99.98% of the 182 performance and added fuel economy which is a bonus. Overall, i really should have bought a 182FF or a second hand Vee but thats life. Just can't wait til monday week.

Just admit it, you miss the performance of the C2, that's why you're having to upgrade the 172, it just doesn't cut it.

Nice one S77!! Is that the 'sale' package? I'm currently getting the bread together for a major power upgrade myself, and am agonising over who's getting the contract. bbtuning are def out of running. k tec too far away.

That leaves 4 contenders. GDI are the only ones who get regular media coverage and seem to be going from strength to strength, in spite of some initial f**k ups[eg stoddie]

My heart tells me BenR is the man for my Clio. But a niggling suspicion of him being unreliable haunts me. Lets wait for his promised ground breaking goodies before we pass judgement.

YozzaSport. When I get a new exhaust it will be theirs, a cheaper but just as good version of Supersprint. They are in the running, and not only because Fred is such a helpful guy.

That leaves Nick Hill. An old school tuner,honest to the extent that it hurts his business. You've got to respect him for that.Also, he has developed stuff that has proved effective. A one man band working from a shed, you'd think his prices would be cheaper. No way Pedro!! Who cares, we love our Clios and spending money on them.
 
Go with GDI, simple as. Give Andy as call, hes mega friendly and he staff are even more so, can't fault GDI one bit.

Thanks for responding S77. Every one wants to know what actuall results of engine conversions are. ie POWER INCREASE. are you happy with the way tuner treated you ect. Let's face it. PR is their stock in trade, otherwise they could'nt give you the fast shuffle.
 
Well I haven't got the car back yet. But GDi have been very good with me (as always) and have even given me a car to run around in while the work is being done. my car was RR'd before the work was done and made a peak power of 175bhp, I'd expect the work to add another 15-20bhp. But I won't find out for a while as the car is elsewhere.

Whats all that disgusting 'warm brother' talk about? I thought this was a 'down home' honest to God Clio tuning forum?
 
Yes very! Their Andy's pics he sent to me. To keep me date with the rebuild a couple of days ago. Seriously fella, if you gonna spent ££££ on a Clio call Andy, he knows his stuff and won't let you down. The others in the business (Becky, Mark) are just as passionate and friendly. Hes a great bloke and won't muck you about, if he says it will be done, it WILL be done.

I f**king miss mine, nearly 5 months now (did drive it for a week or so recently), been so busy I just have not had the time to finnish it off.

How many motors do you have?
 
Well....

Picked her up last night from GDI, and boy what a machine. The sum total of the rebuild includes:

Cams
Inlet manifold
ECU remap
New GDI spec 2.25 inch exhaust (cat back)
High flow panel filter :rasp:

The all important peak power figure is now 195 bhp at 7500 rpm :cool: . The whole car is now so much quicker than the standard car. The power deliver is much more linear but still deverstatingly quick. Fuel consumption hsn't dropped too much only a few mpg's on average. Plus there is now massive amounts of torque low down. The car is a total blast now, my usual drive to work is 10 minutes, but I got up extra early to enjoy some traffic free thrashing! :cool: :cool: :cool: :cool:

It is indeed, the basic package is £1550, but I spent alot more. As the Cam belt was done while the engine was apart and the exhaust isn't included either.

What is the difference in torque?

Can't remember of the top of my head, but its alot. GDI quote around 180ft/lbs on their website. Also the engine pulls from much lower down so driving is around town is a piece of pi$$.
