I need help with 172 crash!

Just a hundred yards away from my house an uninsured w*nker decided to carry on over the roundabout, dispite seeing me coming last nite. He kept going and drove off dispite his smashed driver window and caved-in drivers side of his m reg escort.

My poor 172 needs a new bumper, n/s wing and most expensive of all n/s xenon headlamp! I managed to take out a bollard as i flew over an island to avoid hitting head on.

What shall i do? Claim on my insurance- £450 excess and the loss of 5 years NCB! (putting my insurance next year to £800 as i will b 25 instead of £500).

Or mend it myself, not really knowing the full costs of it all yet. If its over £1000 i might as well claim?

What an asshole. You should definitely report it to the police, its an offence not to stop after an accident anyway, and hes obviously a danger to other road users. Shouldnt be too hard to find a car with a massive dent in the side.

Im sure someone on here can advise you of how much the damage will cost to repair, but I think you might have to claim because it sounds quite pricey.

Sorry to hear of the crash, and hope you can get a good price for the repairs.

first off, i am gutted for you! totally! Really pisses me off assholes like that on the road!

secondly, if youve got 5yrs NCB are they not protected? And also if you make a claim iirc you only lose 2 yrs NCB per claim, taking you down to 3yrs instead of 0. Im not 100% on this so I may be wrong.

TBH from the list youve put up it doesnt sound too bad. All the parts listed are often on eBay and I can guess that the total for them (second hand) would be somewhere around £200 - £300 mark. Is the car still driveable?? Look on the bright side, atleast youve got the most popular 172 colour so parts in your colour shouldnt be too hard to source!

Personally, from that list, I wouldnt claim. If the car is still driveable thge first thnig id get sorted is the headlight and just do the rest as and when you can afford/find the parts.

Thanks guys. I rang the police as soon as i got out the car but they took ages to turn up and didnt catch the escort. We got the number plate but it was still registered to an old owner.

Too right bezza4, the policeman couldnt miss out on commenting on my boyfs driving in his willy, who went after him rather promtly!

Thanx Daz who bought my attention to the NCB thing, i do only loose 2 years and my year now, so i keep 2 years NCB. The most anoying thing is, in four days i would have reached my 5 years NCB and start my new policy WITH protected NCB!

Still gutted, but a bit happier!

The above is what u need but IIRC it recovers cost AFTERWARD like loss of vehicle and excess etc. Personally Id take it to Renault and get an estimate then decide. But remember - it wont ever be right again

same thing happend to my bro but i managed to find where they live,let the police do f**k all as they always do,notify your insurance,claim from the angel fund or whatever its called and claim for the whiplash you have got.Thats the only way you wont end up out of pocket

The Police found the driver! He was uninsured but the car was insured! May not loose my 5 years NCB after all as it will be through his insurance! Hopefully hell get a hefty fine, but im pleased so far!

Im going to get quotes this afternoon, a couple from renault as they are on my insurance approved list and with a 3 year guarantee!
