..So hopefully, with a bit of luck the time may be now when I become a clio rs owner. Ive managed to find a cheeky phase 1 silver however its got a price tag of £3k. FSH etc, had a look around, test drive was good, no knocking, low miles (for the year) lift off was good no heavy engine knocking and best of all, was an absoloute blast!! So do we think a fair price? Also, the steering wheel was blocking the top of the dials from my view, I knew the driving position was bad but Im only 5"8!

Yah, why? Also quick question, the suspension mounts inside engine bay are a little brown (rust) not too bad but just wondering if this is normal, probably gonna swop them over for coils.

If that's got FULL history, belts all done yesterday by a specialist, a full tank of fuel, a years tax, a fresh MOT and £500 in the boot in used £20s, it's a bargain.

Also you can get aftermarket seats if the position is difficult for you.

i sold an immaculate example with 77k, FSH, all round near minter, for £2k about 3 weeks ago. maybe £2300-2400 i'd reckon, and it'd need to be spotless!

I personally think thats a bit steep for a ph1, Mileage and stamps are nill and void its personal preferance on the car itself. Has it had a cambelt?Does it look like its done 53k or 100k etc.... You have to be careful when buying cars, people will ask as much as they can just because it has FSH at a Renault dealer but in reality doesnt mean the car has been looked after

Looked pretty good to me, had a good look around all the sills couldn't see any bubbling or rust spots. Even the steering wheel was mint. Apparently been owned from showroom new buy 1 guy who is now retiring and basically kept it well for the last 10 years or so. Dunno if they'l come down though, from a small garage see. Want to part ex my corsa but only asking 500 for that. Cambelt apparently done at 49k, saw the garage stamp etc

Looked like a genuine 53k as above. Yeah I was thinking that, anyone could stamp it as Renault but in reality is that true!? Looked at a 172 cup, but when I arrived they said it needed a new relay and so wouldnt start.....Also done 71k and theyre asking 3200

Id pay it for a car i think would hold its money. But it wont, if you were to buy it then 6 months down the line want to sell it, you've lost 1k on it easily, Think about stuff like that, but if you bought one for 2k 6months down the line you sell it and you probably wont lose anything if its a good one

End of the day your decision but the fact that everyones reply is that you could get a decent one for around the 2k mark should show you that they dont want you to get shafted

And if someone knows someone at renault it is very true that you can get it stamped!

Way to much mate. I got an immaculate mk2 phase 2 with 35k on clock, hardly worn continental tyreS, full service history, new cambelt with reciets and mot till october and tax till July for 3k. Keep looking. Lol

Nice, well Ive had a little talk and I reckon I can get it for around 2300, that is part exing my little corsa daily. Gonna have a little think and maybe il make a move. After hearing everyones advice I think 2300 is a much more palatable figure. (wooo big words lol!)

If I were you, I would demand; £2300 cash - a years warranty, and a full tank of fuel, and depending on condition of breaks and tires maybe some new conti's all round and some new grooved/vented disks, but seriously £3k is a joke, and I would not trade your corsa, I would sell it privately.

Yeah so basically now know 3k is too much and 2300 is too much as its not including the part ex. Appreciate the advice as Ive not bought an rs before hence the difficulty with valuation. Steering wheel adjustment - do they not adjust on ph1? Seat does obviously but not wheel? Gonna have a word and if they wont budge will look else where. Im 25, how old are you?

He seems rather keen dropping the price so much. 1300 less than what the original askin price was :s sure there ain't nothin wrong with it? Seems strange is all. Couple hundred maybe, but knocking over a grand off..... I'd be a bit suspicious

Well, it has taken a bit of pushing and that IS as well as my part ex Corsa. Leaning towards doing it tbh. Seems a good example. I think original pricing he wasn't quite aware of how much the car was really worth but, neither was I but I had a rough idea.

OK, so....this is more taxing than I thought. Been doing a lot of checking up, did the Gov MOT check, car is registered in 2000 but first MOT is listed as 2006? Weird?! Also, phoned up the reno specialist who did the cambelt on 36k in 2006, then realised its due for its cambelt in July! At the moment I've got him down to 1700 with my part ex corsa, now this cambelt issue has come up I think id be stupid to offer him any more than 1300! What do you guys think?? Its pretty mint, 53k on the clock, full reno stamp history partial receipts not all though. Any help much appreciated!

Cambelt would go by miles mate. Not time. I would have thought anyway. I thought it was about every 35k. Could be wrong tho.

Don't get the mot bit tho.... I know from new u don't have it mot'd for the first 3 years.

Nah not got any pics mate, its good cond, interior is pretty mint and steering wheel not worn like most. Was really close to doing a deal but a bit put off now which is frustrating, knowing I will HAVE to book it in for cambelt service in July! Just seems a but stupid to buy a car and partex, knowing your gonna have to pay out in 5 months. Admittedly something may go wrong anyway but actually knowing seems against the point of buying a new car? Opinions?
