It’s been rather slow progress on the car lately but progress nevertheless.
Partly because it was cold brrr and partly because I got distracted haha and built this [emoji41][emoji56][emoji28]

Now that days are longer and Warmer, time to progress with the Clio

10inch radiator fan fitted. Stock one was too thick.

radiator fitted and some brackets fabricated. Nice and solid.

Made a bracket for 2L catch can.

Next was oil cooler.

and intercooler + all the pipe work trial fitted.

Also exhaust fitted, cut the bumper for the tip surround

Next trial fit the wiring, all the fluids and try start this b**ch up!

There were quite a few road blocks.
First and biggest is the fact car is French haha and I have hands growing not from where they a meant too lol.
After the car run. I decided to trim the engine loom a bit. And I guess something went wrong. Immobiliser solid light. Tried absolutely everything! Spent around 40-50 hours trying to find a problem. No luck. So decided sod it! GO PENG OR GO HOME!
Decided to go stand alone ECU, CARTEK PdP, custom loom.
And now second problem sourcing everything I need at the price I am happy to pay! Let’s be honest, who likes to pay full retail?
Anyways, had to modify my control panel cradle to accommodate PDP. A bit of welding, a dash of carbon fibre, some drilling and hey pronto!!

Next step was to wire the EPAs and mount the controller

Can’t test it properly as car is still up in the air.

Also wired the brake lights using stock brake switch. With 15amp in-line fuse wired directly through the switch, taking power form ignition.


Also made a separate loom for the wipers (hi/low) and washer bottle. Just waiting for some 16awg cable to wire the lights front and rear.

All is left, ECU, DASH and loom.

Few more updates this weekend.

Interior loom is almost finished. Amazing how easy it becomes once you ditch the UCH.

Upgraded the cabling slightly. 2awg mains cable run to junction box. From there it splits to starter/alternator and PDP.
Also ordered 0awg cable for the battery ground. Found a yellow one

Made a small bracket and fixed rain light to the roof. Decided against fixing it on the bumper down low. Will double as a fog light as well for the MOT.

Also painted this.. because why not? It started to get surface rust in few places

Also fitted rear windscreen and quarter panels. Very happy with the rear but I think I was a bit messy with the quarters.. guess this will have to do.

And made a start on fitting door skins, attaching door pull and handle. Before realising, how am I going to lock it if I need to? What you guys use?

Ok today tried to fit glass to my front doors... what I didnt know is that they were meant to go on the inside of the door. Because they are same size as the originals.
As I have fibre glass doors... well here comes the Dremel!

Also trimmed the inside edge of the door as well.

And saved 250ish grams per side hehe

Looks like you had the same issue as I did with the doors and the windows. I am guessing where you trimmed back your doors you didn't need to re-seal them? I did... I must have trimmed a lot more...

I am also doing my look currently, just about to update now.

i have re-sealed in few places where there were gaps but nothing major.
looking forward to youyr update on the locks.
i had to order drivers side actuator as mine dint have the barrel pick up thingy on it. and 2 new barrels and keys.
interesting how you secured the barrels from the inside.

This update I will call: “An elegant (or not [emoji12]) solution to a problem you never knew existed”

Basically I want to be able to lock the car with a key. For various reasons.
Originally car came with only passenger side lock barrel. No good for locking drivers side when you have no central locking.
So I had to order new set of key lock barrels. New drivers side actuator. An other problem was that fibreglass doors won’t locate and secure barrel inside to prevent from rotating. (Metal doors have key way slot for the barrel) are because it’s thicker than metal, plastic secure ring won’t lock in to place( well it did after I skimmed a surface by 1.5mm). Hope you still following... after a bit of head scratching, some 1.5mm stainless, manual filing and a liberal blob of tiger seal, I present to you...

Now I can lock the car [emoji851]quite chaffed with myself today hehe..

That PDP is something special!

We are still in June right? Time flies!
Been busy trying to get all the small jobs done before ECU gets here. Painted and fitted few trim pieces.
Door trims, I cut of original fixings and simply attached with some self tappers

After that fitted bumper holding pins.
2 on each side and 2 in the Center.
Oh and drilled some holes under the number plate and gave it a little black paint so it doesn’t stand out much through the holes. And fitted the tow strap.

Next was bonnet. Made plates for catches out of 4mm aluminium

fitted catches with a bit of tiger seal around the edge

wasnt sure how to angle them so went with the most popular choice

Also fitted new lightweight horns. They sit neatly behind drivers headlight

And in preparation for the engine loom, made new starter and alternator cable with 4awg cable, reusing original terminals

very happy how it turned out [emoji41]. Tested the starter motor through PDP and it all works!
And decided that race cars with turbos need to breath fresh air, so decided to make my own hybrid air box/ ram air thingy. Extremely happy how it turned out. Just need to reroute my intercooler piping slightly so not to cut holes in my pretty work. So shiny! Might actually wrinkle paint the heat shield later.

air will come through the bumper. Will fit wide ducting above the fog light. Plenty of space between the headlight and the body

It looks like a real car now [emoji854]

Tommorow will fit rest of plexi glass and perhaps start prepping the bumper for paint.

So finally all glass except for windscreen is now in.
A little neater than rears. Used 4mm black rivers as well. Love black rivers! Unsurprising how rear quarters take 2 tubes of sealant each! But fronts only half each.

And riveted door cards as well. This are light weight 3mm panels.

Should be picking up my MK1 flocked dashboard today. Exiting

Thanks buddy. The only issue with wrinkle is that it don’t fit in my oven. Either have to make a box to serve as an oven or else.
And yes I have ordered one of this:

will bond it inside the bumper and paint same colour as the car should be seemless. Directly under the headlight.

When I repainted one I found a corner of the garden on a warm day and hungry it from a bungee chord, let it bask in the sun then sprayed it, just used a hair dryer then. imo it came out better than the oven! DId the same with the gauge panel I made too.

Depends how thick you put it on, I put it on quite thick on the panel. Inlet manifold has bigger wrinkles and was thinner coats

Thanks for this buddy! I have used my oven before. It does stink a bit. But I have huge patio doors and had large industrial fan blowing air as well. Did it while wife was at work and she dint even notice the smell. I did run the oven at max temp for 30-40 after to kill of the smell and gave it a good clean as well. But hanging in the sun and using heat gun, seems like a good shout mate!

But had to trim the fronts as they were meant for steel doors, not fiber glass.
wasted a bit of cash there as could have just bought flat sheets and the sliders separately, but hey ho. live and learn

Did a bit more weigh saving. Somebody on Facebook asked me why do I still have the original steering column mount/bracket.. I honestly did not know how to answer that so decided I don’t need it [emoji23]

Also a bit more cooling for the engine bay.. because why not..

So it begins... should be done in a few hours ?[emoji854] nooot.
Found a better place for the dash. Directly on the steering column. Made a little plate for it.

Next is to wire it all.. exiting. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel... almost.

There was no progress for 2 weeks at all due to work commitments. Screw you paid Jobs! [emoji23] only kidding!! Car won’t pay for itself.

Right first thing was to fit turbo blanket. Not much of a job but will greatly reduce under-bonnet temp.

Than I fitted Ph1 throttle pedal and new throttle body.

Now I needed to properly fit the dash. It’s one sexy bit of kit so it deserves some precision haha so I made this! Extremely happy how it turned out. Button on the right is for flipping through screens. 2mm ally and a dash of wrinkle, all home baked in the gas oven while the wife was out [emoji51]

Also the ECU needed mounting, so 1.2mm ally off cut came in handy!

Loom is almost complete, just waiting for IDLE CONTROL VALVE. The plan is to have it running by the end of the week. ?
