I'm considering Mintex 1144's - BUT...

  S3, Polo
...The one thing holding me back is:

Does the dust from these eat into powder coating?

I've heard DS2500's ruin wheels and these have similar performance but cost less.

If they do, can you guys reccommend any upgraded pads that are kind to powder coating?

I'm in the process of having my wheels refurbished and don't want my newly refinished wheels looking crappy in a few months time!

i use Mintex 1144,s. They are brill pads, but i did have Green Stuff on the car when i brought it. My wheels do get a bit more dirty and its done no damage to them since ive had them on. But you might have to file the steel sides of the pads to get em in, its a very tight fit. They get the thumbs up from me;)

Any brake pad will give of dust that is not good for your wheels. if you are bothered just make sure you giv them a celan each weekend and it will be fine. The 1144's are ok for dust really.

Firstly, ds2500's don't ruin wheels. I've had several sets, wheels have always been fine. You're thinking CL's. Secondly, the Mintex don't perform as well as the Ferodo's.

ive mintex on mine mate and have my wheels painted white and clean up quite easily. as long as you give them a bloody good few coats of wax to seal them in before fitting them, i would think you should be fine. mine are painted though, not powder coated.

Just give 'em a good clean a few times a month, and you'll be fine.

I never had problems.

Agreed!

I've got DS2500 pads and they do produce alot of brake dust and doesn't take long before my wheels are filthy. I just keep on top of them and make sure I clean the dust off regular and my wheels appear to be fine. I've heard the Mintex pads are suppose to of similar performance as the DS2500's, nearly got a set myself but I got a good price on the DS2500 with my discs, so I went for them instead.

+1 I clean my car rarely and I never have a problem getting rid of the brake dust!

Good good! :)

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Re: DS2500's being corrosive - I was merely paraphrasing a number of replies read on here. Apologies if I'm incorrect!

For my needs (3 trackdays per year and SDP driving) DS2500 pads aren't worth the extra £40-50 over the Yellowstuff or 1144's, regardless of the performance advantages.

3 trackdays a year? I've done 4 this year and I can't recommend the DS2500s enough. They've performed brilliantly, terrific stopping power no matter how hard I've abused them, no brake fade and they've got enough left on them to get me through this winter. I've had no problems with my wheels getting any more dirty than with standard pads either - and I clean my car rarely!
