insurance and no mods declared. . . . yet repaired

as some of you will know i had a bump about a month ago while gong around a roundabout on a dual carriage way. . . . . not my fault etc etc

i had the following mods;

affected by the bump;

fully colourcoded car
172 16" alloys
172 front grill
172 xenon headlights with silvertecs
side skirts

not affected;

all new ice (around 750s worth)
cup spoiler
tints 25% all round (except windscreen of course)
tinted rear lights

was just reading the other post about insurance/police and mods and wondered why
mine was repaired without any gripes or hold backs when none of it had been declared?

im not compaining, its just i was worried when the accident happened that i would have the car back to standard, but it was almost better than b4 (bodyshop colourcoding rather than my pretty good diy attempt)
.
anyone know why this happened? or if there could be a clause in my insurance that will just put everything back on reguardless???

cheers for any advice, sorry about the long message :D

Could it be because it went throught the other persons insurance and your insurance company wasn't involved?

if it went through the other persons insurance they dont care, obviously they dont fork out the bill. if your claiming off your own its another story, they tried to void mine for having sprayed standard wheels

Middo, thats crazy!! I know technically it's a modification but I can't believe they are arguing about that! It hardly adds value or makes the car more attractive to thieves.

thats what i thought to begin with. but the only contact i have had with his insurance was a very bad message left on my phone, i couldnt understand a word the girl said (probs based in far east, not that im racist) asking me for my details, took me around 20 attempts of listening to the message she left to get her name, the number to call back on and the ref number LOL.

like i say im not complaining but worried that if (touch wood i dont) i have an accident that is my fault im gonna get bent over by them!!

  don't
have you declared your mods now, you've been lucky

declare your mods, if the crash had been your fault your insurance company could have voided your policy, leaving you with no car and no money

yeah im getting a new rear bumper this wknd and dont drive the car that much at uni, so once thats on and fitted i will declare all. any ideas what the list above may do to it?

  Chocolate Bar™
who are you with?

colourcode doesnt add anything normally, 16" 172s can be anything from 50quid to 200 quid lol, front grille,bumper, and spoiler will prob go down on the insurance as a bodykit which then enables you to do anything externally to the car withing reason, which put my insurance up two groups (from a 4 to a 6). If they find out you've got tints on the front windows you insurance will be totally void as they dont allow ANY tint on the front windows, and to be honest if it was me i'd have the tint removed, cos if you have a crash i'll guarentee they will screw you over with your tints and wont honour the policy... many reasons for this, the main being it is illegal to tint the front windows anyway, and they can normally argue that it would have effected your vision (you can argue till your blue in the face that you can see perfectly well, but they wont listen). And before anyone says that its only 25%, clio windows come with a light tint as standard (not sure what %) but will put the % up enough to dick you over. I can also guarentee they will check this even if they have only have a suspicion that the windows are tinted to get out of payment

with zurich and so far they have been outstanding. had to get me as third driver on the car as it was far too expensive to just me at the age of 17. like i say nothing has been declared so im gonna ring up at the weekend and just check with them.

Yer very lucky at the moment!!

Say if you car was torched or something, or somebody hit it while parked up etc...

Or even a simple police stop check.

They will check on mods, already mentioned they will find things! In turn they will try and invalidate any insurance cover you have.

If this is a police check, you can be done for not having valid insurance while on the public road.
(in effect becomes lying to your insurer)
As they say on most places when u phone "You must provide us with accurate information" and also "Inform us when cicumstances change"

With the list of mods you have id phone up and start asking for prices, as it cud get costly. But its in your intrest to declare mods :D

Adamhodg nearly got dicked over for having smoked repeaters and renaultsport sidesills (luckily he'd declared both lol). thats how pedantic they are

I was paying 650 quid 21 with 0 NCB fully comp in my name with bodykit, interior, wheels, suspension, exhaust, induction declared. That was with admiral with my mum on the policy

Da

  Less
I pay about £450 FC 25year old 4 years NCB everything fully declared, wheels, suspension, exterior changes, headlights, induction...etc etc :) I did a 'quote' without the mods and they add about £60 a year to my policy :approve: Not worth the hassle IMO to not declare them, oh and I was with Admiral but with Elephant now till renewal next month.
