Is the 1.2 16v engine prone to using oil?

As title really,

Is the 1.2 16v engine prone to using a lot of oil?

Particularly if it is driven "hard" i.e. 5-5.5k before a gear change.

I have noticed the car using a fair amount of oil recently particularly since using back roads a lot more i.e. keeping the speed up by dropping gears at corners and engine braking etc

Or is it something I should get looked at?

Cheers guys

i had my exhaust manifold crack which caused oil to leak out of the head and down the exhaust (internally)

I assume that would cause it to spit black oil out the exhaust occassionally?

I think I had this once when the car was on the drive, started from cold and it left a very tiny amount of oily "splatter" on the bricks where the exhaust was but I haven't noticed it since.

Theyre a heavy breathing unit and yes they do use a bit - check the airbox and i bet the ECM is swimming in black stuff. Obviously leaks or other problems like ring wear will speed up consumption but as its only a 1.2 why drive it like you're on Pikes SS2... just grab another gear.

Just searched for this myself. I filled mine up about 6 weeks ago and just check today and its sat on the minimum line again. No oil in the water or spots under the car. Should it really use that much that quick?

That's exactly what was happening with mine although it was completely dissappearing off the dipstick.

Still drove proper though but then the oil light was coming on when cornering.

I decided to get rid of the car in the end as I really couldn't be bothered finding out what was wrong and fixing it.

Mine did that and the oil pressure light came on, that was 6 weeks ago so it got filled to the top line. Just checked again now before the NW meet tomorrow and its on bottom line again :S
